The University of South Carolina’s upset win over No. 4 Mississippi earned the Gamecocks plenty of national attention … just not a national ranking.
USC was shut out of both the Associated Press and USA Today/ Coaches’ Top 25 polls on Sunday, despite beating a Top 5 team for only the second time in school history.
The Gamecocks missed making the Associated Press poll by three spots, and fell four spots shy of making the USA Today/ Coaches’ poll.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss plummeted from No. 4 to No. 21 in the AP poll – a seventeen-spot slide. The Rebels’ dropped from fifth to eighteenth in the USA Today/ Coaches’ poll.
Take a look at both polls below …

Unless you are the “usual suspects” (Texas, Alabama, Florida, SoCal, etc.) it is extremely hard to get ranked UNLESS you were ranked in the preseason poll. The voters NEVER want to say they screwed up so they will hang with their early picks until those picks have at least 3 losses.

Don’t worry.
The state will always rank near the top in sexually-transmitted disease and illiteracy.
Nobody’s football team can knock South Carolackey offa them there pedestals!
It’s the reason Sanford left the state for a hole-mate.
Argentina’s got cleaner pussy than his own godforsaken swamp.
And more teeth per capita.

it’s because everyone knows ole miss should never have been a top 5 team.
By Whatever September 27, 2009 at 10:59 pm
I think quite a few of the “top 25″ teams probably wouldn’t be in the “top 25″ if they were in the SEC.

The game wasn’t over a minute before the very swine who voted Miss to be #4 were screaming about how they were extremely overrated. The assholes who vote in these polls are certainly practicing to become republican politicians…cause they are never wrong. And what’s up with all these 2nd tier western schools being ranked. College football payoffs plain and simple.
btw you gotta put Spurrier and Son in the above category. I think Spurrier had their QB ranked over Jesus…I mean Tebow for a while.
By CNSYD September 28, 2009 at 9:08 am
obd, as we know, and Spurrier admitted, the voters in the USA Today poll are not the coaches but some lower level staff member. So what is the strategy? All our opponents are to be ranked high before we play them. Then if we lose, we can say well they were a higher ranked team. If we win then we can say we beat one of the top teams.

Old Bike Dude and STDyd they have TV at the Blue Oyster?
By Jeffy01 September 28, 2009 at 12:54 pm
28 is about right. Ole Miss stinks, but it was a great victory with a National audience. 7-5 is still going to be about where the Cocks end up.

Toyota,
If “Blue Oyster” is the nickname you gave your hoohaa, then I guess there probably is a TV in there.

To my little Japanese-Polish friend Toy. While I have occasionally visted the Blue Oyster, it was only for the laughs of watching your father pole dance while your mother waited for me in the parking lot. And your sister ain’t half bad either.
So why don’t you tuck your little weenie back between your legs and resume your life as a confused bennie-boy and allow us men to discuss sports and politics.
Oh and have a nice day.
