Norwood Breaks USC Sack Record

University of South Carolina All-SEC linebacker Eric Norwood broke his school’s record for quarterback sacks Thursday night, the latest milestone in a storied college career.

On a third-and-long play in the first half of the Gamecocks’ upset win over Ole Miss, Norwood lined up in the defensive end position.  When the ball was snapped, he flew past Rebel left tackle Bradley Sowell and wrapped up quarterback Jevan Snead for the record-breaking sack.

Another sack later in the game gave Norwood 28 for his career – or two more than Andrew Provence recorded during his career at Carolina in the early 1980′s.

Norwood is having a whale of a season, easily establishing himself as one of the best defensive players in the nation.  He has a team-leading 27 tackles, including 6 for losses – and six sacks through the season’s first four games.

He also has a forced fumble and an interception return for a touchdown.

Norwood shines under the national spotlight.

In addition to his heroics this year against Georgia and Ole Miss, in 2007 Norwood equaled an NCAA mark when he scored two defensive touchdowns in a prime time, nationally-televised showdown against then-No. 8 Kentucky.

Nah, Mark Maye said he wasn’ that good. He doesn’t play for SoCal or Notre Dame, he can’t be good. God, wouldn’t it be awesome to see Norwood sack Maye on the set up ESPN, ala Chris Evrette pushing Jim Rome to the deck.

Who’s Mark Maye? I know of a Mak May at ESPN, who has a couple SB Rings, an Outland Trophy, and a great deal of knowledge about football. I guess this Maye fellow must be new. That, or somebody is too much of a homer to pay close attention to silly little details like spelling. On second thought, it must be the latter. After another review of that train-wreck of a post, it is obviously the latter. Someone was so excited about posting something about one of his man-crushes that his little fingers got all tangled up.

I think it was JIM EVERETTE who pushed Jim Rome. Dude you’re 0-2 on names. Don’t blog drunk or else get some alzheimers meds.
Now on the other hand I’d like to clarify that we’re talking sacks as in tackling the QB behind the line and not sacks as in ball sacks. I’m out.
