I guess this refers back to Will Folks’ post (maybe it originated from SCRG) about Irmo having lower SAT scores than Chapel Hill High School. Someone looked at the actual demographics of those two schools and showed that Irmo has a much higher percentage of poor students…..this “best schools” comparison isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see what Will comes up with tomorrow.

The entrenched–the conservatives who rule SC and educrats* who rule the schools–would shrink with horror were SC to decide to truly prepare its students for the 21st Century world and economy. That would require teaching our upcoming citizens how to think rather than what to think: for example, rational problem comprehension and reasoned problem solving, rather than rote memorization, trite positions, and regional myths.

Shame on voucher clowns. sic(k) willie and Howie’s other carpetbuggers know exactly the problems facing public education in SC.

You know! Poverty, racism and the social ills that go with them. And don’t forget lack of funding and the shameful “minimally adequate” standard.

Now before some voucher clown jumps off the Gervais Street Bridge whining about minimally adequate, just remember the SC Supreme Court ruled.

The Legislature has the power to fix the shameful minimally adequate standard and can also address the other real issues.

Instead they foolishly debate a voucher scam that would only leave those who need help the most even further behind.

Come on SC, let’s rise up and send Howie’s voucher clowns a message:

“…I’m mad as hell…” Vouchers are a scam!

The “high standards” line is total crap.
Look how even the “best” schools in SC are way behind good schools in other states on the ACT/SAT.
That is why the Eductrats pushed for standardized testing that is ONLY used in SC – so no one can see how bad some of the schools really are!

Equally, if not more important, is the FACT that kids cannot learn if they are victims of abuse or their parents are strung out on drugs or destitute due to unemployment. Look at the figures, Folks and folks and start reporting on and expressing outrage about this.
