It takes an embarrassment to know one … unless of course your name is U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson.
South Carolina’s Second District Congressman – who took humiliating the Palmetto State to a new level earlier this month when he blurted out “you lie” at President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress – bashed S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford for embarrassing the state shortly upon arriving at Reagan National Airport Tuesday morning, sources tell FITS.
Wilson was returning to Washington from Columbia, S.C. on an early Tuesday morning flight when he struck up a conversation with an unidentified female passenger. It wasn’t long before the conversation turned to South Carolina’s scandal-plagued governor and his “secret agent mission” to Argentina earlier this summer.
After ditching his security and telling his staff that he was “hiking the Appalachian Trail,” Sanford later admitted that he was visiting his Latin lover, Maria Belen Chapur.
“It was so irresponsible,” Wilson told the woman, speaking of Sanford’s conduct. “So embarrassing. I would never do something like that.”
“Embarrassing?” said former Democratic gubernatorial spokesman Morton Brilliant. “Somebody should hold up a mirror in front of (Wilson).”
After bashing Sanford, Wilson then held up his cell phone to the woman, according to our source, waving it in the air and claiming that – like American Express – he “never leaves home without it.”
“I wouldn’t go anywhere without this,” he said. “And the safety issues, too, I would never go off alone like that.”
Calls to Sanford spokesman Ben Fox office seeking comment were not immediately returned.

Ballantine Books, an imprint of Random House Inc., said Tuesday it will publish Jenny Sanford’s “inspirational memoir” in May 2010.

Am sick to death of Sanford and Wilson and DeMint. How low can we go? These people make me really want to move to another state. It only gets worse as time goes by. Sanford needs to resign, and Wilson needs to get a life, and apologize to the people of SC. DeMint is just plain mean, and nuts. None of them speak for me.
