Bauer To Sanford: Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock

In case anybody forgot, S.C. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer’s offer to shelve his gubernatorial ambitions in the event Gov. Mark Sanford resigns has a deadline attached to it.

Specifically, it’s good only through the end of October … which Bauer reiterated in a speech Thursday in Greer, S.C.

From The Greenville News:

“I’ll probably announce in the latter part of October, and until I announce, I said I’ll just take myself out the running if he’ll step down. But I have to start my campaign at some point.”

Bauer originally made the offer last month after Sanford said he left the state in June to meet his mistress in Argentina without telling anyone where he was. Subsequently, members of the House GOP caucus and House Speaker Bobby Harrell called on Sanford to resign, and the state Ethics Commission is investigating his travels …

… Bauer said some factions don’t want him to be governor because it would give him an advantage in the elections, and that realization led to his offer.

“I said, if that’s the issue, I’ll take myself out of the race, try to be the best governor this state has ever seen, and get out,” he said. “We all make mistakes, and I was very supportive in the beginning. But we’ve reached a point now where we’re not moving forward.”

So with a Halloween deadline, will it be “trick-or-treat” for Sanford?

Duh.  Isn’t it obvious by now?  After all, Bauer made Sanford (and his 2010 GOP opponents) this offer nearly a month ago, for crying out loud … which was basically reiterating an offer he made three months ago.

Not content with completely scuttling the reform movement in South Carolina, Sanford has made it abundantly clear that his delusional, Narcissistic, Bible-quoting (suddenly), media-hating, hypocritical ass will have to be dragged from the S.C. Governor’s Office kicking and screaming like a West Columbia “nail technician” on the Jerry Springer show.

Which may happen sooner rather than later … despite rumors that “heels are cooling” in the legislature.
