Some chapters (or maybe it was by states) where far more politically extreme and racist and other chapters or individual members just wanted to be heritage and history buffs. It reportedly led to some withdrawals of group affiliations and resignations of individuals. If memory serves (and it may not), the NC groups tended more radical than the SC ones. But heck, in some parts of NC the old Klanners would be the moderates; the Aryan Nation and StormFront types would hold the fringes.
