Get Your Joe Wilson Rebel Flags!

As much as we’d rather not indulge the irrational white guilt that’s being promulgated these days by supporters of U.S. President Barack Obama, South Carolina Congressman Addison Graves “Joe” Wilson sure isn’t making it easy on us.

Seriously, people … this moron’s “you lie” outburst has unleashed a veritable Vegas casino’s worth of “race cards,” which gather fresh momentum with each new “Confederate Connection” the national press is able to make to Wilson.

Here’s the latest one, from The Politico:

Before Rep. Joe Wilson was famous for confronting President Barack Obama, he was perhaps best known as a fervent supporter of flying the Southern Cross about the South Carolina Capitol.

Now, at least two people are trying to cash in on his new fame on eBay, retailing flags that flew over the capitol and were officially certified by then-State Senator Wilson.

Earlier this week, of course, we learned of Wilson’s involvement with the Sons of Confederate Veterans – a “heritage” group that is one step removed from wearing bed sheets and burning crosses.

Sort of like Henry McMaster’s Country Club.

Obviously, it would be one thing if Wilson was worth defending, but being a pro-bailout RINO we’re content to watch him twist in the wind and let people presume the worst as to his intentions.

SCGOP Chairwoman Karen Floyd, on the other hand, is defending Wilson.  In fact, she put out a statement yesterday slamming the U.S. House for its “admonishment” of his outburst.

“The fact that Democrats are still seeking to attack Rep. Wilson days after he apologized for his outburst goes to show that their action (Tuesday) is about nothing more than politics,” Floyd said.

Duh.

I am a member of the SCV and I think saying that they are one step removed from the klan is a little harsh. In fact the SCV is a non-political organization and there are black members as well. If you recall, the former NCAAP president of the Ashville, NC chapter joined the SCV. He later put on a Confederate uniform and walked from North Carolina to Texas carrying a battle flag to promote Southern Culture and history. Now, I would agree that the League of the South is on the fringe…

I am NOT a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans although by heritage I would be eligible to join. I do know people who are members. To paint them as “one step removed from wearing bed sheets and burning crosses.” is wrong, unfair and a lie.

To the rest of the world, we must look like The Land of Useful Idiots.

Obama’s narcissism could not just let this rebuke slide; thinking people just can not let Obama slide. It is going to be a 3 1/2-years-long junior high freak show from here on out.

Good grief — doesn’t our government have better things to do with their time and our money?

To all the pro-SCV posters … ten years ago, we would have agreed with you about the ideological mooring of this organization but not now. You just can’t replace historians with inbreds and have a satisfactory result. Seriously, go up to a SCV meeting in Anderson County, S.C. and tell us how many darkies (isn’t that what you guys call black people?) you find there. Well, with the exception of Danny Cooper’s “best friend,” possibly.

If there aren’t white sheets, crosses and gasoline in the back ‘a ‘dem ‘dere pickups, drinks are on us.

Even if one does not agree with the President, the outburst was so disrespectful, so the rebuke was a good decision.

Joe really rebelled from the federal government back during the Vietnam War when he told Uncle Sam:

“I need me a student deferment, and when that runs out, I gotta get my ass into the Army Reserves so’s my ass won’t get shot off by rice-chomping crazy people who are fighting like the Confederates of old, but evidently appear to be winning.”

Will as always thanks for a well written post. For several years, I’ve considered you a political ally in the fight for less government, lower taxes, personal responsibilty and greater transparency at all levels of government. YOU ARE HOWEVER WAY OUT OF LINE IN YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT AN ORGANIZATION THAT ATTEMPTS TO HONOR THEIR ANCESTORS WHO FOUGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM AGAINST TYRANY SIMILAR TO WHAT WE’RE SEEING IN WASHINGTON TODAY. I really think an apology is in order and think you’re man enough to realize it and admit you made a mistake. Come on Will!!

Several years ago there was some considerable and openly reported internal contention in SCV. Some chapters (or maybe it was by states) where far more politically extreme and racist and other chapters or individual members just wanted to be heritage and history buffs. It reportedly led to some withdrawals of group affiliations and resignations of individuals. If memory serves (and it may not), the NC groups tended more radical than the SC ones. But heck, in some parts of NC the old Klanners would be the moderates; the Aryan Nation and StormFront types would hold the fringes.

p.s. – j/k … we certainly don’t want to begrudge anybody for honoring lives lost, and we have long held that all American war dead – including Confederate war dead – are worthy of honor. with that in mind, if we offended any of the “history buff” faction of CSV members, we apologize.

“SCV, ‘a “heritage” group that is one step removed from wearing bed sheets and burning crosses.’”

But it is true of a significant portion of its members, chapters, or groups (who knows, perhaps even most). Just because it’s also clearly not true of all doesn’t mean we should ignore the widespread taint and scent. “When you lie down with dogs . . .”
