Dean And Dumber

dean and dumber

It’s too early yet to say whether the “Joe Wilson heckle” will eclipse the “Howard Dean scream” on the list of politically-moronic yawps, although it’s safe to say that the S.C. Congressman’s outburst was all anyone in Washington, D.C. was talking about Thurday.

“Health care, schmealth care.”  People wanted to know who the idiot from South Carolina was.

Wilson’s gaffe was also a financial boon for his opponent in the 2010 election, Democrat Rob Miller.  Within 24 hours of Wilson yelling “You Lie” at President Barack Obama Wednesday night, Miller’s campaign had received an astounding 14,000 individual contributions totaling over half a million dollars.

Again, don’t get us wrong … Barack Obama is a liar.  Perhaps the greatest in history.  But there’s a time and place to call him one, and the floor of the U.S. Congress during a Presidential address just ain’t it.

Republicans in Congress are liars. But I guess they can’t well call themselves that, so they have to vent their inner angst on others.

By rick on September 11th, 2009 at 6:42 am

And Democrats have never Boo’ed a President during a joint session? Neither are squeeky clean. And Anon, like most of the weak kneed sisters on the left, once again you show your ignorance. Better figure out that both sides of the isle are playing you. It isn’t party….it’s that we expect less and less from them as time passes. Historically, the congress has little decorum, its only when its to one parties benefit that they begin to tout civility. Remember, these are the same men and women that sell out the American people on a daily basis to special interests.

By newzjunkie on September 11th, 2009 at 6:58 am

Republicans are really showing their “color” over all of this! Not in the history of this country has POTUS experience such disrespect on the House floor. Signs, walk-outs, outbursts! I love your “family values.” Sure, every party has booed – but this? Now I see why I never jumped on your bandwagon.

I wonder if republicans – especially in SC- think/admit race is factor?

By Um,no on September 11th, 2009 at 7:48 am

You right-wingers deserve each other. Having succeeded in elections for years based on the science of manipulation rather than actual facts, you continue the name-calling like “liar” without any factual link to what you’re talking about (as in this post). You’re now the party of Sarah Palin, Joe Wilson, Mark Sanford, and the other intellectually-challenged fringers. Keep it up.

By Just the Facts Ma'am on September 11th, 2009 at 8:02 am

The difference here is that Joe Wilson is being reprimanded by friend and foe alike. Nobody on the left has the guts to criticize “the one” when he or his cronies make outrageous claims or cling to socialist policies. The outrage doesn’t doesn’t rise to the level of error — it tops it. All you whining libs go back and listen to the respect that the Ds gave to George Bush during his speeches where they actually made catcalls and boos as he spoke in those ‘hallowed’ halls.

By baked on September 11th, 2009 at 8:08 am

hey anon: they’re all liars. both sides of the aisle…they just cant help themselves

By Commonman on September 11th, 2009 at 9:38 am

Never thought Joe Wilson would become rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. The boy needs to get a reality check on who he is.

By Robin Soper from Colorado on September 11th, 2009 at 10:01 am

South Carolinians are stinking up our political discourse with their hypocritical, ignorant and selfish behavior. This is a stronghold of the Republican party – self righteous boors who elect their leaders based on how trashy they are. Joe Wilson is the quintessential Republican ignoramous traitor who cares nothing for the prosperity of this nation and only for his own short sighted agenda. He is a disgrace to our country.

By peyton manning sucks on September 11th, 2009 at 10:54 am

Wilson’s just appealing to his base. That’s what politicians do. The crackers that elected him love this shit. He’ll get re-elected in a walk, no matter how much money his opponent raises. No democrat has a chance in that district

By Silence Dogood on September 11th, 2009 at 10:56 am

FITS, it is actually approaching $750,000 that Miller has raised since the address. Since Miller only spent about $650,000 last time around, and Uncle Joe about $1.1/$1.2 million, these number have to be making him cringe big time.

By roofus on September 11th, 2009 at 11:03 am

Did not Obama finger Repuclican pols and call them liars at his infomercial? Let’s re-examine His words, shall we?

By OhNoNotAgain on September 11th, 2009 at 11:40 am

When Hillary-as-Senator frowned during a Bush State of the Union and it was caught on tape, you would have thought she was passing the nuclear codes to Breshnev, based on the outraged reaction of the right at the time.
Think back.
There is always a mingling of boos no matter who the president is, at least since Clinton was president, always mixed in with the traditional applause lines. For both sides. yes.
This is different. It is a departure from the normal decorum. The signs, also. I have never seen Democrats do that, but if you can find me a picture that it happened, I won’t be surprised.
Let me use the Republican standard on such things — To call the President of the United States a liar on a national broadcast DURING A TIME OF WAR gives aid and comfort to our enemies.
That line was used about Ms. Hillary’s frown.
I don’t think a frown is the same. But if you hated that, and applaud Wilson now, you’re a hypocrite.

By Pamela on September 11th, 2009 at 12:03 pm

Yes it’s both sides that are corrupt & rude, however we still need a two( or maybe 3) party system ,its the fringe groups that make all politicians look bad. Too far right or left with the majority in the middle.I have voted independant all my life. I did not not vote for President Obama, but he is our president & I will respect the office, its people like Rush,Demint & Wilson who hope he fails that is destoring our country.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

By follitics on September 11th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Rob Miller is closing in on $800,000 from 21,000 individuals. Thank you, Joe Wilson! With enemies like Miller and Sanford, SC Democrats don’t need friends (but they’re gaining them daily).

By follitics on September 11th, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Oops! I meant enemies like Wilson and Sanford!

By roofus on September 11th, 2009 at 1:07 pm

ohnotagain,
Congressman Stark declared (in the same Chamber the Congressman Wilson) last year that Bush was a “liar” and sending “Americans to Iraq to have their heads blown off for his amusement.”

Please. Spare me your selective outrage, Dems!

By silas on September 11th, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Miller will lose even if he gets a billion dollars in contributions.

By SCCON on September 11th, 2009 at 3:21 pm

Since when has FITS cared about propriety and decorum?

By James the Foot Soldier on September 11th, 2009 at 5:48 pm

Walking out as one Congressman from Illinois did after being drubbed, cajoled, lied to, and patronized is a legitimate protest.

Calling out the president for all the lies is also a legitimate protest.

Remember, this was president obama’s 115th speech on obamacare – were it his first the handwringing and teeth gnashing would have some degree of legitamacy.

The ironic part if the obamaniacs would actually comprehend what is being said is how obamacare changes with each speech – pretty soon President Obama will actually address the 10 million or so AMERICANS that are actually chronically un-insured.

Until then – game on.

By A Soft Sigh From Hell on September 11th, 2009 at 5:50 pm

Doofus has trouble differentiating “within a speech” from “interrupting a speech.”

By dj on September 11th, 2009 at 6:27 pm

This just proves how stupid all of you are. You are so fucking emotional about the most ridiculous shit!!!! Instead of talking about the immigration aspects of the health care bill…which for the majority of you who haven’t read it. It can be accessed at opencongress.org. You are so weak minded and easily manipulated by media, you cry and wet your underwear about what Wilson says..and worse emotionally make decisions based on shit like that..who the fuck cares… Fuck … you people are fucking retarded.

Wha? … What do you YOU people?!?

Huh?

By vernon on September 11th, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Ohnotagain,
It seems to me that since Obama is actively prosecuting CIA operatives who spent the last 8 years keeping this country safe (while risking their lives), and since Obama is actively shutting down GITMO and dispersing terrorists to tropical paradises and US prisons, I suspect the enemies of this country were disheartened to see Obama called out.

But then again, I better not disagree with an Obama supporter, unless I want my finger chomped off.

By shay on September 11th, 2009 at 9:36 pm

Rep. Wilson, as a retired guard member, is covered by TRICARE – a government-run single-payer health insurance program. Has he given up that coverage because it’s run by the government?

By vernon on September 12th, 2009 at 7:22 am

Shay,
When was the last time you waited 3 hours to have your sinus infection treated? I encourage you to go the the VA and camp out for a few days…

By rod on September 12th, 2009 at 8:35 am

I think Obama’s face and VP “Plugs” Biden would be more appropiately superimposed on Dumb and Dumber…

By shay on September 12th, 2009 at 10:45 am

Vernon: I assume from your answer that Rep. Wilson, and his military sons, have forgone their government coverage. Thanks for clearing that up!

By rick on September 12th, 2009 at 8:29 pm

Perhaps Shay, he has used the VA and doesn’t want the rest of America treated the same way. Ya’ll are way off base, callin each other names and comin up with “well he has his”. Yep he does, and for that he signed a blank check to this nation to be cashed in on the whim of the people of this nation. That you didn’t cash it isn’t his issue. His issue is in knowing that for the past 30 years, this nation reduced the number of medical facilities available to active duty members. Most installations now consist of a clinic with defined capabilities, with a hospital capable of full service may be hundreds of miles away. Just because he disagrees with the plans coming out of congress doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand the fundamental issues behind National Health Care. This isn’t so much an issue of insuring the least among us as it is a major power grab. While ya’ll are bickering over this, those dogs in DC are stealing us blind. Ask yourself a question…if the republicans are such a friend to big business, why is this administration bailing out big business, making secret deals with big Pharma/Insurance? If their not selling you down the river, whats the overwhelming hurry? What don’t they want you to see? Both sides have their meathooks in this….better wake up before its to late.

By Mark g on September 12th, 2009 at 9:19 pm

SC’s Republican politicians make national news consistently for their nonsense: DePass for his racist and insulting remarks; Sanford for lying, cheating and hypocrisy; Wilson for his boorish behavior and stupid remark.

Do these guys really represent you in the way you’d like them to?

SC is not a bad place, but they make it look ridiculous.

By James the Foot Soldier on September 12th, 2009 at 9:50 pm

Mark G – sorry pal – the congressman from South Carolina was RIGHT – Obama’s a “Big Fat Liar”.

I hope democrats keep funneling money to his opponent – every dollar spent there is money that can’t be used where it might make a difference.

Joe’s gonna look really stupid during the next presidential speech to joint houses of Congress when he has to sit there quietly with his typically dumb expression on his fce.

It’s great to see how the truth motivates Liberals. Like moths to the flame,,, only this flame they try to put out.

Kanye just booted Wilson’s ass from the news cycle.

By NoObama on September 14th, 2009 at 9:10 am

Kanye and Obama remind me of one another. Both want the spotlight so bad, they will do anything for it. As for Joe Wilson, he is an AMERICAN HERO! He finally called Obama on his lies. Follow the Obama speeches, the number of uninsured is falling with each one. Given no action has been taken on this bill, it we just wait it out, we should have everyone insured by the end of the year. This is of course based on Obama’s numbers (pulled from his a_s of course). I have not heard him utter a word of how good our system is or the doctors that serve it. Similar to Kanye’s respect for Taylor Swift.

P.S. Race only is an issue for the far left in this country.
