Devin Taylor: Don’t Let It Go To Your Head, Kid
In his first game as a college football player, South Carolina redshirt freshman Devin Taylor recorded six tackles, a sack, a blocked punt and two forced fumbles – one of which led to the only touchdown in the Gamecocks’ 7-3 season-opening win over the N.C. State Wolfpack last Thursday.
Not a bad show, in other words.
Now, for his efforts, the Southeastern Conference has named Taylor – a 6′ 7″, 232-pound defensive end from Beaufort, S.C. – as its defensive lineman of the week.
Interestingly enough, Taylor was only in the lineup because USC’s starting defensive end – 6′ 8″, 281-pound junior Clifton Geathers – was suspended for his role in a nightclub brawl.
Geathers will be back in action this coming Saturday (Sept. 12) when the Gamecocks travel to Athens, Ga., to take on the University of Georgia Bulldogs, who dropped their season-opener to Oklahoma State.
Saturday’s game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 beginning at 7:00 p.m (EDT).

Sic mucho thanks for the Devin shout out. He’s a hometown lad and we love him. He was a joy to watch in high school and has got off to a fine start at USC, one of the few bright spots I might add.
