It’s not exactly a missing persons case (yet), but sources in Clemson, S.C. tell FITS that former South Carolina Board of Education Chairwoman Kristin Maguire has “dropped off the face of the earth” over the past week.
Maguire resigned from her appointed post nine days ago – around the same time news broke that she had (allegedly) written reams of steamy erotic fiction under the pen name Bridget Keeney. Numerous friends (and more than a few reporters) have attempted to contact Maguire since the story broke, with no luck.
“We don’t know where she is,” a friend of Maguire’s told FITS. “Except that she is not at home with her family.”
That’s a bit odd, especially considering how Maguire cited the need to spend more time with her family as her official reason for resigning.
Also, while Maguire has stepped down from the state board, there’s no word yet on whether or not she has also resigned her post as a SC GOP executive committeewoman. In that role, Maguire wrote the S.C. Republican Party’s education platform, which is obviously far less interesting than Bridget Keeney’s work.
Obviously, Maguire remains a “person of interest” in South Carolina political circles given her proximity to disgraced S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford, whose own sex scandal broke earlier this summer. That scandal has since erupted into a full-blown political soap opera that has literally consumed the state and paralyzed its government.
Oddly enough, right around the time Sanford’s own sex scandal was breaking is when the governor is said to have received incriminating information about Maguire’s alleged writings.

Perhaps if we keep after Mcguire long enough and continue to rehash what she was alleged to have done several years ago under a pseudonym, we can force her to move out of state, or even kill herself. Then we can move on to the next person to tear down, no matter how significant or what the circumstances.

Simple and already stated in this thread …….she must resign from the SCGOP…… do so and you are no longer in the public realm and open to most public comment…at least in my mind.
This other resignation has not happened yet…….showing weak leadership in the SCGOP and in the Governor’s office…… which again (The Governor’s office) simply needs to tell the State Republicans the following …we asked her if this was true …since in our well reasoned opinion ….this type of creative writing….when made public…. would undoubtedly be viewed by many folks as salacious at the very least and morally inappropriate by the vast sanctimonious and judgmental Christian base of the GOP party in this State.
Look …the fact that the self proclaimed “Christian” leadership that controls many County GOP delegations and resultant agendas …happens to not…. in fact …..be….. The pious people they represent themselves to be in public and that they stridently evangelize in GOP party meetings….. is not a surprise to a large percentage of Republican voters.
It certainly is not a surprise to the now joyous members of the SC Democrat Party …….who will use this potentially …but still unproven…. intellectual hypocrisy…. as a political bludgeon with great effectiveness in the Pickens region until some mature adult in the State party just deals with this.
For the record ….in the political arena …..in my opinion…..you can be whatever you want…… sexually …..Adulterer ……….evocative author of non-violent sexual fantasy…… or practicer of alternative sexual practices with same sex partners……… as long as you either declare it in campaigning or when confronted with it….yes…even by these truculent New Media Bloggers …you own up to it ………because everything you are or do ……is fair game in politics.
South Carolina political parties, politicians, and traditional media…… like newspaper, radio or TV…… need to accept that nothing will make Fits News go away…… and as FITS’ success emboldens more tipsters and secrets from coming into the open….and as the exposure of these secrets self reinforces itself……… by causing results like this major appointees resignation….

SC Politicians ……If you have something in your past that you know if made public now will cause you heartburn in your constituent’s mind…….confess it in a new section at FITS…. Mrs. Maguire, as the chair of the state GOP Platform and Resolutions Committee, was instrumental in blocking a resolution on the state FairTax initiative, which would eliminate the state income tax, at the May GOP Convention. I wish the best for her family.

But Maguire’s position as Chairman of that board is just a small slice of her sphere of influence. The preeminent voice for education reform in this state as well as its foremost policy expert, Maguire has everyone’s ear, even those who don’t agree with her. Plus she’s got two other assets that help enhance her clout: money and sex appeal. The extensive liberal outcry over her appointment to an essentially powerless board (solely because she home schools her children) was frankly a long-overdue public compliment for the tremendous behind-the-scenes influence this immensely-gifted woman wields.

I think this is hilarious! McGuire’s been living a wicked double life, gets busted, hustles to try and purge the internet of her smut–all the while claiming not to have written it–then disappears like a vapor. Obviously, SHE doesn’t believe in abstinence-only education. Do as I say, children, not as I do! Too bad she didn’t have the stones to just who she is, and not put on the evangelical, far-right persona. If you don’t believe what you’re saying, stop saying it.

McGuire is down in Argentina; she’s bound to be. I heard it told that many of the hot Latino studs are there, so Bridget Keeney, er, Kristen McGuire is probably off doing some field work. My best guess is that she’s on the passenger trains perfecting her craft, so she can write even nastier erotic fiction. Abstinence only? Forget about it! That’s only for knaves and peons.
