Take The Bucs (And The Points)

We may regret this later, but we’re betting on the Charleston Southern football team this Saturday against defending national champion (and preseason No. 1) Florida.

Oh, with the point spread, of course – which the last time we checked was a whopping 63 points.  Yeah, you read that right.  Sixty-three points!  That means to cover the spread, 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and the Gators will have to put up nine touchdowns (and nine extra points) – and the Florida “D” will have to pitch a shutout to boot.

Is that likely?

Obviously it is, or Florida wouldn’t be a 63-point favorite.

In case anybody cares, the largest point spread upset in the history of college football occurred two years ago when Stanford defeated the University of Southern California 24-23.  The Cardinal entered that game a 40-point underdog to the No. 2 Trojans.

So yeah, don’t stop believin’, Bucs!

UPDATE: Did you take the 63 point spread?  If so, you made a good bet.  Florida beat Charleston Southern 62-3, meaning they failed to cover by five points.

Those kids got whipped, but they played with class. Hat’s off to them. And, hat’s off to Tebow as well, what he did for that little kid in the wheel chair makes it hard for me to hate Florida like I do.
