Guess Who’s Hiring…

government

The thing that Republicans never say about nationalization is that, at least for a little while, it creates jobs.

That’s why the federal government is just about the only “sector” that’s doing any meaningful hiring – and meaningful it is, with an anticipated 600,000 available positions over Barack Obama’s tenure.

Who’s this working out for?  Well, in addition to those 600,000 people, it’s strategically beneficial for Obama, who in 2012 will point to those people as proof of his visionary success.

Interestingly, almost half of the jobs are “mission-critical,” falling within the scope of legal work, administrative work, or law enforcement – that is, the plurality of hiring is directly attributable to compliance.  In other words, it takes a lot of work for the federal government to comply with itself.

It’s a trickle-down effect, socialist style: Those at the top legislate and regulate and bloviate, and then they hire people as executors of all those rules.

Then there are the wars – another governmental mandate – which have precipitated the need for a surge of health care hires to staff the veteran hospitals.

Trickle, trickle, trickle …

The way it’s going, it looks like eventually the federal government’s existence will hinge entirely on its service to itself.

What in the world will it regulate then?

And what of the government workers who’ll too join the ranks of the unemployed?

You know, like the 7 million (and counting) who used to work in the American private sector?

And the overarching questions….where is the money to pay these 600,000 coming from. Government may create a job but has no way of funding that job except for taxes. Will these jobs go away when no longer needed? With the normal hiring times for a job…anywhere from 3 months to a year, we’ll feel good about the families then…but until then? Nice try Mande, but until you’ve passed thru the mess that makes up government hiring this good news is years away from fruition.

FITS, had you been listening for the past several years, you would have heard about the effect of the baby boom generation’s retirement from Federal service. So rather than skim the surface of the story you need to ascertain how many of the alleged 600k hires are simply replacements. Now of course you will say we don’t need any of them. Just tell me how many less members of the armed forces, less FBI and ATF agents, less border patrols, less customs agents, less flight controllers, etc. we can have. I do agree that replacement jobs are not new jobs. BTW due to expected shortages in critical positions the Congress is looking to change the rules to allow hiring of retired workers.
