The Candidate Formerly Known As “Ear Hair” Is Sorta Funny

old drake

Dwight Drake apparently hates it (hates it) when we call him “ear hair,” and more than a few people familiar with his background have told us we should take it seriously when he gets angry.

More on that later …

For now, though, it appears that the lobbyist-turned-gubernatorial candidate has busted out the trimmers and taken care of his little problem – which means we must (lamentably) refrain from referring to him as “ear hair,” at least until that hedge row grows back.

Anyway, here’s Drake’s latest campaign video …

A petition to oust Gov. Mark Sanford, you say?

Hosted on DwightDrake.com?

Brilliant!

Of course the video isn’t anywhere near as funny as people told us it was, although we do commend Drake for thinking outside the box and coming up with a nifty theme …

He’s playing on Democratic rage against Sanford, which is smart during the primary season … and driving up the governor’s negatives in the process.

Do all the male gubernatorial candidates, or wanna-bees, have eyebrows which tend to grow together?

The best thing that can happen to SC is for Drake to do well.

The biggest problem the GOP has is there is not “normal” competition for the hearts and minds of SC. The complacency that the GOP leadership has bores the best and the brightest…leaving behind the B team to fill the vacuum.

We desperately need an adversarial Democrat party. This will wipe away the old, corrupt bunch of third rate hacks that have run the party for decades. A loyal and vigorous opposition will allow true leaders to rise to the top, freeing the party to grow and prosper.

The problem is that the Democrats still have Carol Fowler, a dumb-ass if there ever was one. She could torpedo any candidate or plan with just one of her hate filled press conferences or letters.

We would have a great four years of laughs if Dwight were elected. He is funny and likes to laugh. He genuinely likes people. Quick witted, astute and perceptive. Got that little neatnik problem to get over, but he is a lot of fun. I vote Jay Hicks be his press secretary. Hey. We can’t do worse. The world is laughing at us already. I bet ole Walter Edgar is staying awake at night wondering how in the Lord’s name he is going to put a positive spin on this chapter of our state government. Run, Dwight, Run!!!!

Hell, and all this time I thought he walked around with dead caterpillars in his ears.

I remember Gov. Dick Riley warning his wife about Dwight Drake.

“Now, Tunky, don’t go anywhere near the trunk of Dwight’s car. He might have nuclear waste in there.”

He’ll get my vote. Enough of the Republican BS. Drake has paid his dues to society AND focusing on creating jobs.

Anything but a Republican in the next election! The Democrats are always more fun, and have better parties. Although, I’ve known a few Republican wives that are a lot of “fun” at parties…! We need a mixer!

The S.C. Democrats can’t win for losing.

It’s not that Dems can’t win in the South: The Dems still run the other Carolina and have been doing a better job there than our Republicans have here (though that’s not hard).

Since the Hodges/Hollings triumph in 1998, the S.C. Democrats have combined an incoherent message with incompetent leadership, bland candidates, and an association with a national party that manages to offend most South Carolinians on a regular basis.

The S.C. Republicans know that the Democrats are helpless in this state and act accordingly: Richard Eckstrom takes the state minivan on vacation and is easily re-elected. Robert Barber puts the Highway Patrol video of Andre on the air, but still loses. Thomas Ravenel was elected. If not for federal investigators, he’d still be coking it up in the treasurers office. And then there’s the General Assembly.

If any Democrat can become Governor of South Carolina, it’s Vincent Sheheen. He’s bright, young, and can appeal to independents and moderate Republicans, which is what a Democrat needs to do to win in S.C. The Republican field is extremely weak for 2010 which gives the Dems an opening. However, knowing the Democrats’ luck, so many people will be angry about Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are doing in Washington that Sheheen won’t have a chance.

And we will have Governor Andre Bauer as a result.
