SCRG Calls On Sanford To Step Down

As noted in yesterday’s article on the ongoing “gubernatorial meltdown,” one of the Palmetto State’s most influential political organizations has called on S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford to resign.

South Carolinians for Responsible Government, which has led the fight for more parental choices in the Palmetto State, said Wednesday that Sanford should resign in the wake of the multiple scandals confronting his administration.

“On behalf of the SCRG Board of Directors, and our supporters across the Palmetto State, I am asking the Governor to step down immediately,” SCRG Chairman Randy Page said Wednesday. “The real policy challenges of staggering unemployment, tightening budgets, and faltering public schools can no longer be overshadowed by personal and political distractions that erode the reputation of our state and the integrity of the governor’s office.”

Page, who has been President of SCRG for four years, also serves on the Boards of both the Palmetto Family Council and South Carolina Citizens for Life. He has already asked Sanford to resign as a private citizen, but the fact that the weight of SCRG is now behind that decision adds another ideological ally to the list of conservatives calling for Sanford to step down.

Page previously served in the administration of S.C. Gov. David Beasley.

Nice.
Good to see the “Scourge” is actually willing to put public policy before personal politics.
Obviously NOTHING will be accomplished on the Budget (etc..) next session if Mark is still at the Mansion.
Can we anticipate similar wake-ups at the other right-of-center watchdog and pundit groups in Columbia?

If anyone is being exposed as frauds at this point, it is the media and the political elite. Fits and company want a dim witted girlie man at the helm, so he can give away the store to special interest groups. Brilliant! But I give the people of South Carolina more credit than that. The people know that what SC needs in a chief executive is exactly what it has, a lover and a fighter who will take names and kick ass, who won’t surrender even as the villainous, traitorous character assassins try their level best to break him.

Johhny D-
Part of a “fraud” invloves a lie…
…as in lying to the culture conservatives about your stance on family values and the priority of parenting
…as in lying to the libertarians about your treatment of public money and esteem of transparency
…as in lying to everyone about being “a different kind” of politician and a “real citizen-lawmaker”

There may be defensible arguments for Gov. Sanford staying in office, but they would need to involve more than him merely being “a lover and fighter.”

Funny – they didn’t care when it was just adultery and throwing away your wife and 4 sons

Mark is so focused on how important he is, that he is willing to hamstring issues he says he believes in by sitting in office.

Johnny D, This guy screwed over his wife and children, lied about it, and continues to put his own self-interest above the people who should mean the most to him. Trying to somehow ascribe desirable attributes to a guy who broke his marriage vows and his kids’ hearts is damn disgusting.

SCRG…who cares. All they do is spend other peoples money and lose elections.

I am all for their cause…but their political tactics suck.

Ask anyone in the military, which Sanford is a part-time part of, what happens when someone leaves their post. THIS IS THE CRUX OF THE ISSUE.

Not to mention it’s sickening for him to leave his family on father’s day, lie to staff, etc., etc. The man is crying coup when he is the one who set himself up for such.

They should call for him to step down. He railed about the rights of parents, and then abdicated his own kids. Whatever their problems, SCRG is one of the few people putting out real data that contradicts the syrupy self-praise from the Dept of Ed. They get my respect for that, whatever their political tactics. There are a lot of average Joe, people in SC who could care less about insider politics and feel the same way. Someone has to do it
