Year five of the Steve Spurrier era commences at South Carolina with the Gamecocks (a.k.a. Lamecocks, Shamecocks) heading to Raleigh as underdogs to a middle-of-the-pack ACC team.
ACC = “Anybody Can Compete,” in case you’ve forgotten.
Seriously, people … the N.C. State Wolfpack are currently four-point favorites for a nationally-televised “showdown” with South Carolina on Sept. 3 – a game that any other SEC team would no doubt view as an early-season tune-up for conference play.
Frankly, we shudder to think what the point spread will be when the Gamecocks head to Athens on Sept. 12 for their SEC opener against Georgia.
Seriously, how did we sink this low?
Wasn’t the Old Ball Coach (Sac?) Steve Spurrier supposed to bring SEC championships – maybe even a national title – to Columbia? You know, like the kind that head coach Urban Meyer has brought to Florida? Twice in the last three years, in fact?
Sheesh. Why didn’t South Carolina hire that guy.
And it’s not just that the college game has obviously grown too challenging for Spurrier, he can’t keep his athletes out of trouble, either. Add a brain dead Athletics department and higher ticket prices to the mix, and you’ve got disappointment all around.
But hey, South Carolina will be rubbing a giant cock before it plays its home games this year, another new manufactured “tradition” in a program whose marketing department is best known for ripping off the public in University-sanctioned pyramid scams.
Oh, and celebrating friggin’ first downs.
Nice, huh?
Anyway, at the end of the disappointing 2007 season (wait, they’re all disappointing, aren’t they?), we proposed our ideas for turning the program around. None of them – we repeat, none of them – have been followed.
For shame, for shame.

State is expected to compete for the Atlantic Division this year, returns one of the better QBs in the nation and is playing at home.
You obviously did very little research for this piece before firing it off half-cocked, pun intended.
State — and the ACC — is better than you give them credit for. I know, I know, 34-0. Guess what year that transpired in? 2008. This is 2009. If State doesn’t win by two scores I’ll be shocked and disappointed.

Despite what the NC State Sports blogger says NC State’s team is not that great and please spare us the nonsense that Russell Wilson is “one of the better QB’s in the nation” nonsense or that you will be competing for whatever screwed division you all play in the sorry ACC. Hate to burst your bubble but that is not intimidating. That said though they will beat Carolina next week because Carolina’s sucks just a little bit more. And as as stated we can thank our lame brained Athletics Department and equally geriatric, brain dead Board of Trustees for allowing it to happen for the continued acceptance of mediocrity they have displayed over the past 50 years. The constant hiring of retread football coaches from Paul Dietzel to Holtz on through to Spurrier are just the symptoms of a university run by a bunch of complete and utter dumbasses.
So with all that NC State will beat Carolina next week with a score of probably 31-7. It will be a blowout. But if I were an NC State fan or alum I would not take too much away from beating a program that continues to suck. Afterall Vandy has beaten us 2 years in a row which is something you can’t claim.

As a long suffering fan of USC I am used to this. I believe that we will go 4-8 this year. Hopefully I am wrong, but history is on my side. This is why USC fans like to drink so much. The game prices have gotten out of control and I believe that Spurrier will be packing his bags by the end of the season. Again, maybe I am wrong and USC will start 6-0 like two years ago and, oh, right, we fell apart. History seems to win.

We lost 6 starters on defense, lost our starting QB, starting HB and star receiver and our star kicker.
All that being said we will win handily. That 4 point spread is a sucker bet from Vegas.

What other college football team celebrates first f$@&ing downs? Whats next? A chant every time an offensive blamecock gets positive yardage?
Also, i refuse to click the weblink attached to the words “rubbing a giant cock”

Apparently you guys (with the possible exception of Toyota) never visit the gogamecocks section of The State web site. What I read there is that the lamecocks will not even break a sweat in stomping NCSU as usc plays in SEC. All focus is on the whipping that usc will give the dawgs the next week. The only possible competition for the lamecocks this year is the gators and since that will be in willy brice the edge goes to usc. All that sound about right Toyota?

The real question is, will Spurrier have at least half as many wins as he has players incarcerated?

Myles, I believe being the best Quarterback in the ACC at the very least brings your name into the discussion of the best qb’s in the nation.

Nothing like SEC fans cracking on the ACC. What does SEC stand for? Sorry Education Conference? Name an SEC school that has even a shred of academic respect, other than Vanderbilt? Georgia, Florida? Not a chance. ACC players have higher IQ’s than the top students of any SEC school. Acc schools have academic requirements for their players. Something the SEC has never heard of. Hell, I doubt there is an SEC football player with an IQ higher than room temperature, let’s not even discuss the students. So, keep winning “at all cost” on the football field, SEC fans and students. The ACC alums will continue to win after graduation.

Kinda funny that you would say Wilson is not one of the best quarterbacks in the nation since he now holds the longest streak of completed passes without an interception in the nation. The facts aren’t hard to grasp, even you USC guys should be able to get it. GO PACK!!
