With S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster now officially running for “Guhbnah,” speculation is now centering on who might run (or who is already running) to replace him.

Obviously, the name we hear bandied about more than any other is S.C. State Law Enforcement Division Chief Reggie Lloyd, although it appears that there is now an organization beginning to coalesce around Columbia businessman and former state and federal prosecutor Robert Bolchoz.

“Robert’s 20 year career as an attorney, prosecutor and businessman give him a unique combination of skills that suit him perfectly to serve as Attorney General,” Greenville attorney Keith Munson said in a news release sent out Tuesday by a group of Bolchoz’s supporters.

Also reportedly looking at the Attorney General’s race is Alan Wilson – the son of U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson.

Upstate solicitor Trey Gowdy was once considered a prime candidate for Attorney General, but then he had a surprise change of heart and decided to run against Bob Inglis for South Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District seat.

Heads are still scratching over that one …

Anyway, you can check out the release from Bolchoz’s friends below.

Alan Wilson is a good guy. We could do far worse.

Lloyd has been in his current job for at least thirty minutes, which seems to be his limit. So rumors of him running make some sense.

Bolchoz was Charlie Condon’s right-hand man when Charleston was solicitor and AG. God save us from another term of that hyper-politicized abuse of the judicial system. Besides, with our economy in such dire straits, can anyone really afford all the fax paper that would be needed to handle a third Condon term?

Alan’s not a bad fellow. Rather limited experience, as I don’t believe he’s ever first-chaired a trial. I know he didn’t do so while he was with Donnie Myers. Took him two attempts to pass the SC Bar.

Fortunately, he’s more like his momma than his challenged father.

Alan Wilson is already in the race. Its not that he is thinking about it. He has given out bumper stickers and has a website.

Red Bank-

You may want to check your facts before you post comments.

First of all, Alan successfully prosecuted former city police officer Donald Johnson (who had molested his step-grandaughter) up in Spartanburg County in 2007. I can personally attest to this because I was there. Johnson is currently serving a 20 year sentence in the SC Dept of Corrections as a result of Alan’s “first-chair” work on that trial.

This is one of approximately 15 cases that Alan prosecuted in front of a jury during his time at Donnie Myers’ office in Lexington, and more recently at the AG’s Office.

For that matter FITS, Alan Wilson has by far had the more recent experience as a “former prosecutor” if you are comparing him with Robert Bolchoz. His credentials to be our next Attorney General go way beyond simply being labeled as “Joe’s son”.

Alan not only 1st chaired several trials in Lexington, he was eager to get in front of juries as 2nd chair and did excellent work.

More of note I recall he once pulled a hat trick, and first chaired 2 general sessions trials in one week getting convictions on both.

After 12 years of prosecution I can tell you that is a real rarity for any assistant solicitor!
