Jayne – Where is the “mercy” shown to the victims of Lockerbee? Extreemist’s show no mercy and yet expect it for themselves. But in actuallity they USE the fact that the “western” civilizations WILL show mercy which is their standard to show the weakness of our civilization. Dont forget which part of the world chops off hands of thieves, beheads criminals, etc. And yet they want mercy – to them mercy = weakness.
Yet do you cry for the woman who is to be stoned for drinking a beer? (Indonesia). No your tears are for a convicted bomber, they are for the terrorist who attack your country. I am quite sure had anyone survived the 9/11 crash you would have wanted to show mercy to those terrorists too. Mercy = weakness.
There was more evidence to convict that Lockerbee terrorist than there was to convict most DUI suspects.

Obama’s pathetic perfomance on his vist to the UK earlier this year has had its consequences. He have the PM dvds the PM could not play. He gave Her Majesty and IPOD loaded with videos of his speeches. I know most people don’t get the insult, but the Brtish officials at the highest levels did.

Most Libyans genuinely believe that Megrahi was innocent. The evidence used to convict him was largely circumstantial, and the second appeal in his case, which could have led to evidence casting doubt on his guilt, was dropped. So the notion that he could have been framed for vested political interests is not entire impossible, and even many British relatives of the Lockerbie victims now support his release.

The decision to release him was one made by a Scottish court, which is independent from the governments of the US and the UK, so the Obama administration cannot receive any blame or credit for this release.

The Obama administration is within its rights to prosecute CIA officials who were responsible for the shocking abuses of the Bush administration, from rampant torture in secret jails, to indefinite detention, to extraordinary rendition, to the crackdown on civil liberties. Many of the people tortured in places like Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and Bagram were innocent, so terrorism per se is far from the only scapegoat for these gross excesses.

The most amusing reading among the above comments is that Europe is on the verge of turning into “Eurabia” due to Muslim immigration. In fact the converse is true – most immigration to Europe is non Muslim, Muslims constitute barely 4 percent of the European Unions population despite decades of large scale immigration, and demographic trends show birthrates amongst second and third generation European Muslims to be comparable to the host societies.

Then again, if neocons want to delude themselves with nonsensical notions of a Muslim “takeover” of Europe, they may remember than many of the less pro Western sections of Muslim societies may see their views as a compliment – just like the 90 year old man who was delighted to be accused of siring a child !

USDOJ coming after CIA folks now (after years of “investigations” and lack of prosecution) is a purely political play to BHO’s hard left cronies, who are a bit put out with him these days. I think he underestimates the animus this will create within the moderate mainstream, since the people he’ll be trying to prosecute/ruin are simply mid-level careerists who were doing a) what they were told to do; and b) what was legal and within policy at the time.

The Agency is on fire right now, and to say this latest attack from within has effected morale would be the understatement of the year. To all the moderates who swung to Obama and “change,” I hope these are the changes you were hoping for…

Jayne, this isn’t about the release of an innocent man as the New York Times would frame it, and yes I read article after article. He was clearly used as a pawn, first sold out by his own Libyan government for western favors, namely the dropping of U.N. sanctions. So supposing he is innocent, why are cutting bad deals with these shitty regimes? We cannot send the message that if atacked, just send any old schmuck over to us to appease our public’s demand for justice, its just a charade and we’ll even let them go after everyone forgets about it. While the guilty get away with murder and continue the jihad. Just like we are doing with Khalid Sheik Muhammad and 9/11. He should be dead by now. We managed to execute McVeigh, swiftly. The only approach the west should have is to fight terror with total committment, and it needs to be unwavering and lightning fast. Attack us? You’re dead. Plot to attack us? You die in prison. And CNSYD, a strategic partnership with all Christian nations and Israel is the only way we’ll remain strong, so Feliz Navidad amigo.
