Memphis’ Record Season Is Going, Going …

rose

The Memphis Tigers basketball team won a record 38 games in 2007-08 and made it to the NCAA Final Four … or at least they did in the version of history that existed prior to today.

That history will be erased when the Tigers’ entire record-breaking season is vacated due to multiple NCAA violations involving players faking SAT tests and improper travel disbursements to players’ relatives.

Making the PR disaster worse? The school conducted an “internal investigation” that … wait for it … found “no wrongdoing.” Riiiight …

Specifically, the allegation is that former Memphis star (and 2008 first overall NBA draft pick) Derrick Rose had someone else take his SAT test for him. Rose’s brother was also allegedly provided with over $2000 worth of free travel,  which frankly isn’t surprising considering former Coach John Calipari’s shady past.

Calipari – who resigned from his post in March to become head coach at the University Kentucky – has now had Final Four appearances vacated at two different programs.
