medicaid

South Carolina state government has received over half-a-billion dollars in federal “stimulus” money, according to S.C. Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom, with every dime of it going into government agencies – and most of it being poured down the drain of an inefficient, government-run health care delivery system.

Here’s a break down of these “stimulus” funds courtesy of Eckstrom’s office …

$333.3 million – Department of Health and Human Services (Medicaid)
$78.3 million – Employment Security Commission
$42.0 million – Department of Social Services
$23.1 million – Department of Public Safety
$17.8 million – Department of Education
$12.4 million – Governor’s Office
$3.9 million – Department of Commerce
$2.3 million – Department of Health and Environmental Control
$260,000 – Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging
$69,000 – Vocational Rehabilitation
$24,000 – Department of Transportation
$19,000 – Budget and Control Board

“We’re spending money we don’t have on many things we don’t need,” Eckstrom said. “Too little is going to create jobs in our economy-at-large and too much is going to grow government programs. What’s becoming more and more clear is that the stimulus isn’t working as advertised, as unemployment has long surpassed the eight percent benchmark set by the White House.”

Wow, so the money was not used to create jobs, but to sustain government programs that we havent been able to afford in years, that drain money from our already tight budget… who expected differently? We need to stop relying on the government and believing what they are saying, as it is apparent that its all crap. Medicaid got most of the money, not our teachers and police officers or any other job field facing cuts, but a health care program that benefits only certain people. People who could have used a job if you ask me.
