Rick Pitino Is Invoking 9/11 Again
On the list of things that the marketplace of ideas frowns upon, we’re guessing that exploiting a national tragedy for cheap sympathy points is probably up there … especially when it involves something comparatively inconsequential like college athletics.
That means you, Nick Saban.
And you (again), Rick Pitino.
Seriously, we’re sure it sucks for Pitino right now. After all, everybody’s reading about how the Louisville basketball coach banged some chick (a.k.a. Karen Sypher) on a restaurant table, got her pregnant and paid for the abortion … errr, the “insurance.”
Here’s Pitino’s statement in response to all that, courtesy of the Louisville Courier-Journal:
When 9/11 hit, you needed a community to get you over it. In New York City, it was easy because everybody knew the devastation of that and they got each other over it. In Louisville, the impact wasn’t felt like New York City, but I needed this community to help me get over it.
Ummm … okay. Anybody else thinking of a “Day The Trousers Fell” analogy?
Of course, Pitino’s been to the 9/11 well before. Here’s what he said back in June about the Sypher scandal …
Times aren’t easy, but if I can get through 9/11, I can get through anything in my life. And I got through 9/11 and there’s nothing ever going to come close to that. We’ll get through this in a positive way and move on.
In fairness, Pitino did lose his brother-in-law in the September 11 terrorist attacks … and by brother-in-law we’re obviously referring to the brother of his wife … who was NOT the woman he banged on the restaurant table.
Anyway, Pitino is on shakier ground than most coaches in his situation because his contract with Louisville has a morality clause.
Let’s hope for Pitino’s sake it doesn’t also have a stupidity clause.

I’d like to see them (Louisville) use the ‘morality’ clause and boot him. If they do, I don’t doubt he’ll make money somewhere, but maybe a point would be made that Louisville would put that ahead of winning for once….or maybe not; I wonder what the alums who give the most $$$ say?
And, I don’t think for a moment that he’d be kept if he had an awful record (Wins v. Losses) at the school; just pointing out the different standards.

Yes I think every one should go back to 9-11 and watch building seven fall to the ground at the rate of gravity and tell me how that is possible, or the twin towers turn to dust as they fall down at the rate of gravity as well. Just how is that F’en possible, HOW?
