There’s a reason that Hampton County’s public schools are always classified as “at risk,” which is the new politically-correct term for “failing” here in South Carolina since God forbid we disturb anyone’s fragile emotional state with anything resembling the truth.
What’s the reason?
Well, take a look at this headline from the Hampton County Guardian …
Nice, huh?
And so typical. Basically, as long as the administrators don’t have to feel the pain, everything’s okay … and believe us, they’re not feeling the pain. Not even a little bit.
Of course while Hampton 2 is adding administrators, the district fired 15 teachers in June and is threatening to fire more teachers if its state funding is “reduced.”
Here’s a recap of Hampton County’s recent academic track record from our friends at The Voice:
Hampton 2 has an on-time graduation rate of about 35%, and has been ranked consistently as “at-risk” for the last 5 years. This district may lose half a million dollars in funding for this year, but taxpayers have every right to expect a better return on the hundreds of millions the district has already spent. Of far more concern should be the students that have been lost over the years.
Also, as we reported exclusively earlier this year, Hampton School District 2 was one of four districts in the entire state that failed to report its carry-forward reserve balance in 2008. The previous year, the school had a carry-forward reserve balance of $5.2 million – or nearly 40% of its estimated annual budget.
Bottom line?
Hampton School District 2 needs to check its match and “come correct.”

Inez was not all wrong when she took over Allendale’s school district just 15 miles up the road. This pitiful district needs teachers who are committed to teaching the students, like the English language and simple math, and not just committed to getting their paychecks by direct deposit. The layers of administration between the district office and the students is unbelievable. Much like that state education office on Senate Street in Columbia.

sic(k) willie, you “ignorant slut” (we love that phrase). It’s a famous line from a classic SNL skit. And, it fits sic(k) will perfectly.
You and the other 4 voucher clowns know the real issues facing education.
But, you are too busy pimping Howie’s voucher scam to admit it.
It’s the poverty, “stupid.”
And the (lack of) funding.
And the racism (not so latent in many places).
And the host of social ills that go along.
sic(k) willie, vouchers are dead in SC! Period!
But this is a great country. Feel free to keep making a fool of yourself pimping for vouchers. As long as you can suck Howie’s voucher scum $$$.
First, the voucher scam was exposed.
Now, sanfraud is exposed.
What next? sic(k) willie with his pants down? Scary!!

It is always about greed and money grubbing gangsters taking all the kids school money away. BIN you think its poverty and racism and all the other social injustices somehow to blame for the state of the schools when in reality its just been run as a racket for so long and in such a po dunk part of the state that no one cares to fix it. The fact they have a 35% graduation rate in Hampton 2 is evidence in itself those taxpayers are easy to dupe because the same people who are ripping them off are responsible for educating them. There is only one form of social injustice and that is the over reaching hand of debt, which is a condition that man puts himself into, or is placed into with people with power to control the budgets of governments and beauracracies. Vouchers may not be the best answer to go, but it is at least an alternative too a blatantly inept school administration running their kids lives into the ground.
