Washington State Candidate Rips South Carolina

larry phillips

A local Washington State politician has thrown a gratuitous jab at South Carolina in a new TV ad for a county-level government position.

Larry Phillips, who looks like he should be knocking $100 off the cost of Tru-Coat for your new Oldsmobile, makes the disparaging reference to the Palmetto State in an ad extolling the innovative virtues of King County, Washington.

First, here’s the text of Phillips’ ad …

This is King County and we can do anything we set our minds to. We catch fish out of thin air. We’re changing the way people read books. We’re finding cures for cancer. We build transit on time and under budget. We made coffee famous. We invented commercial air travel and the personal computer. Let’s see South Carolina do that. As King County Executive, I’m going to create jobs, protect public health and fix county government. And we can do it, because in our county, opportunity is King.

Here’s the video … listen out at the 0:18 second mark …

Yeah … as born and bred South Carolinians, that obviously pisses us off – a lot. In fact, if we ever run into Larry Phillips we might just throw his tanfastic ass into some furniture. And call him a “Hillbilly.”

Here’s the only problem though … his point is perfectly valid.

South Carolina has the worst public schools in America (thanks to its failed, monopolistic status quo) and a state government that literally can’t walk and chew gum simultaneously. We have no “business climate” to speak of, which is why our unemployment rate is soaring and our income levels are lagging behind the rest of the nation.

As much as we hate to admit it, our state is a joke – which is why we shouldn’t be suprised when people make jokes about it …

OH NO! The asshole who went to fucking BOARDING SCHOOL talks more shit about public schools. Yeah, we know you care so much about S.C.’s children (that’s sarcasm, you may need to look it up in a dictionary — we know how uneducated you are). Does it hurt to be that much of a douchebag, or are you just used to it?

By WesWho on August 7th, 2009 at 6:57 am

At one time Wes Wolfe was interesting. But now he is just plump, greasy and vulgar.

He needs a calorie counter, a shower, and a thesaurus that changes his simple and childlike 4 letter words into reasonably erudite expresions that would be unsuitable for a public bathroom wall. A place, by the way, where I suspect he would be perfectly at home.

By ohay on August 7th, 2009 at 7:24 am

Wes, if you spent as much time on your own website, as you do on Will’s, maybe it’d be successful. I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’.

Wes:
Shut yer mouf, boy! Wha’ kinda laguage is dat? Did ye git dat frum da publick skools? ’sides, what makes ye think dat mo ov da same is a gonna “fix” publick skools? Is you some kinda statist nazi?

I can go weeks an not even hab Warshingtun State cross my mind fer anie reason, yet dis feller has ’bout 30 seconds an’ takes da time to insult our homeland. Yep, an’ arse whoopin’ is what dis feller needs!!!

I love it when people are attacked for telling the truth….makes you wonder who the real douchebag is? Lived all over the world, love SC for it’s ability to make me laugh. Keep it up, when King County Washington knows your name…you know you’re the poster child for disfunctional.

Wes Wolfe worships at the shrine of Paul W. Bryant one of the biggest cheaters in the history of college football. He thinks people in this area care about the Alabama redneck team and spends most of web space telling the other three people in SC who care about what size shirts they wear or some other trivia. Of course he also makes comments about how superior they are to SC teams. Of course they are superior. They are the best team money can buy, except perhaps for the west coast USC. You would think that if he was so in love with Alabama he could just take I 20 west and never come back.

Since Boeing now has a bought a factory in SC and is considering more investment, of course this jerk wants to run down SC. IRT your comment about SC public schools. I have always held the opinion that in order to compare apples to apples you must compare the demographics of the systems you are comparing. Are SC public schools ALL poor? I doubt it. Within a district you can find sharp contrasts that directly relate to demographics. Obviously the same exists nationwide. Read “The Blind Side” and see the quality of public schools in the poor areas of Memphis where virtually no one cares.

Wes Wolfe is absolutely infatuated with 2 things: Shitty Alabama and Will Folks. Read his site, follow him on Twitter. I wish he’d move to Tuscaloosa because noone cares about reading Crimson Tide stats and his man crush on Folks 24 / 7.

By McFailure on August 7th, 2009 at 9:39 am

real school choice has Mr. Rich.

public school failure has the General Assembly.

Who do your sorry asses trust? 40 years of failure in public schools producing gems like Wes Wolfe, who for all possible reasons should have to “redo” k-12, or private schools which produces gems like Gresham Barrett minus the whole spineless hack vote on the bailout?

By Trey on August 7th, 2009 at 9:56 am

The price of owning humans is pretty high.

By CNSYD on August 7th, 2009 at 10:27 am

Barrett went to one public school, The Citadel. Home of the biggest bunch of immature little boys in the USA.

TK…and miss all the fun. Cooter…sing a song? Lets face it people, the puget sound region is chock full of people from the land of breakfast cereal(california). Their ideas and attitudes are california in nature. For them to even know where South Carolina is is an achievement in of itself. These transplants moved(ran) from the land of cereal carrying their attitudes and social mores with them from the disaster they created and are now busy re-creating them in Washington,Idaho, Montana and Colorado. If you can’t appreciate the irony….well, as I said….you funny.

The ad is a non sequitur and really bizarre. Is there some latent anti-South Carolina sentiment in Washington state that he wants to tap into? What’s the connection between his state and SC? Kind of reminds you of the way politicians in SC used to run against Harvard, Teddy Kennedy, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.

By K Trane on August 7th, 2009 at 2:10 pm

Some good public schools in South Carolina:

Spartan High
Dorman
Byrnes
Dutch Fork
Wando
Lexington
Summerville
Irmo

If kids from these schools are going to Ivy League schools and succeeding there, it can’t be that bad. Coincidentally most of these schools have great football programs.

Believe me people, its not just Washington state that mocks and laughs at us.

By Stupid Stupid Stupid on August 7th, 2009 at 4:00 pm

K Trane,

don’t forget Fort Mill, South Aiken, Northwestern

By southernmapart on August 7th, 2009 at 4:05 pm

King County, Washington is one of the highest taxing counties in the country. Plus, I hope they do have rapid transit, ’cause you arent’ driving anywhere fast with limited across the water to Seattle. Complete logjam up and down I-5.

Let’s talk quality of life …

By BC on August 7th, 2009 at 4:06 pm

Don’t be offend SC but take notice. Let this serve as a wake up call. Take action and fix what is broken! Stop defending the status quo by merely taking a form of injustice againist these comments.

By CNSYD on August 7th, 2009 at 4:09 pm

K Trane, add D W Daniel to your list.

sunnyvaleboy, most people laugh at others because they feel inferior and want to pretend they are superior. Roll down to Alaskan Way near the ferry piers and see the huge collection of winos. I guess this is what King County is so proud of or is it the Green River serial killer?

By Eric on August 7th, 2009 at 7:11 pm

If it makes y’all feel better, my wife and I just moved from SC to WA and someone here asked my wife where is from and she told him South Carolina. He then followed up with, “Is that in the midwest?”

There are idiots everywhere – it’s just that SC’s idiots are located in politics.

By southernmapart on August 7th, 2009 at 8:40 pm

Not taking offense to the criticism. Just making note that the younger generation in King County, Washington LOVE coming to Myrtle Beach for summer fun, as well as Daytona Beach. They may have Bill Gates, but we’ve got where it’s all happening in living life.

By CNSYD on August 8th, 2009 at 9:15 am

Eric, the response I get on this side of the Mississippi when I tell people that I am from SC is “Oh, I have been to Charlotte (or sometimes Raleigh)”. People from the Dakotas say they have a similar problem. The state with the biggest problem is New Mexico. People think it is in Mexico vs the US.

Who is Wes Wolfe?

By Caroline on August 14th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

” South Carolina has the worst public schools in America”—I beg your pardon, fitsnews, but please tell me what data you’re using for this assumption?

By shawn on August 17th, 2009 at 3:03 am

Don’t let smug Seattle get you down South Carolina because Larry Phillips is just another corrupt tool from a state that has no identity. Just look at all the far fetched exaggerations he tried to attach to King County, Washington. I moved from Kansas City to Seattle and I cannot wait to get the hell AWAY from WA when the economy improves.

He makes a gigantic claim that light rail was built on time and under budget…TOTAL BS. Nevermind the small claim for assuming credit for light rail that coincidentally opened in time for the mayoral campaign. It’s still not fully completed and has so many cost overruns. Not to mention the construction company foreman cheated the city and bought lower grade steel for the price that was paid for the steel column supports. http://townhall.com/columnists/MichaelMedved/2009/07/22/combating_the_brain-dead_preference_for_government_over_private_sector

They also have a trolley system named the S.L.U.T. — http://www.ridetheslut.com/

Traffic here is intentionally restricted to dangerous 2-lane access roads they like to call “highways” with speed limits of 50 MPH. These are roads that should have been 4 lane roads with dedicated turn lanes over 30 years ago. Freeways only allowed to 60MPH. Anyone caught doing 61 in a 60 is frowned upon and considered too materialistic. Corporate anarchists hate any fortune 500 company but please excuse all boycotts against Starbucks, Microshaft, and Amazon. McDonalds is making their pretentious kids too fat but the 1700 calorie latte from Starbucks is mother approved.

Liquor is taxed heavily here and sold in government ran stores like nazi pharmacies.

This is just the tip of the iceberg from this overly smug and pretentious bastard region of the country. A typical Seattle person is moody, frumpy, and downright pessimistic to anything east of the Cascades. The women wear no to little makeup. Everyone is pale, lifeless, and rather dull to chat with. Seattle mindset is “our $hit don’t stink” and when greeting an outsider the trained response is “nice to meet you now go phuk off somewhere else”. They blame all the California natives for their problems, but frankly, it’s the natives here that make it miserable. But hey if they have to be miserable, then why not make everyone else too?
