Gresham Barrett Knows What’s Coming …

barrett money

On the day that Tweedle Dumbest (a.k.a. S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster) announced his campaign for governor, Tweedle Dumber (a.k.a. U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett) blasted out an email to his supporters bragging about his fund-raising lead in the four-way (soon to be five-way?) race.

Towards the end of this boring, self-important, totally substance-less message, however, was this curiously defensive reference …

Our political opponents and those opposed to changing Columbia aren’t going to go easily. As our campaign continues to pick up steam we can count on them to say or do anything. But phony accusations will only hurt their campaigns, not mine. And we will expose these tired tactics with facts and recognize their efforts for what they are – desperation politics.

South Carolina deserves better. And together, that’s what we’re going to give her.

Hmmmm … given some of the rumors we’ve been hearing, it appears that Barrett’s campaign believes that the “best defense is a good offense.”

That’s certainly the approach they’ve taken with us – as we were threatened twice with legal action before the campaign even agreed to go on the record with us about some of the reports that are flying around the Palmetto political echo chamber.

Oh … and “that’s what we’re going to give her?”

WTF is that?

Based on your reports of the “rumors we’ve been hearing” about Barrett, that might not be all he gave her…

By Stephen Barger on August 4th, 2009 at 2:21 pm

Mr. Folks,
I believe your blog today is a huge case of the ‘pot calling the kettle black.’ You imply that Gresham Barrett’s integrity might be challenged. And yet you openly discuss how you skirt (pun intended) professional journalism standards to become a voeyur.
“Second, the legal standard for publishing images of unsuspecting subjects is murky at best. Speaking of which, our lawyers are having a field day going through the hundreds of “beach babe” images that Sic Willie has sent back to our home office for “review.”
I hardly find the above any credentials for somebody to start impugning somebody else’s ethics.
And secondly, regarding your unprofessinal name calling of Gresham Barrett “dumber’ you are flat out wrong. And if this was a real print publication no respectable editor (or their libel lawyer) in the U.S. would have let you print that. I have known Gresham Barrett since we were in college and the Army. I can’t think of a brighter, more common sense, honorable and ethcial man to be governor of South Carolina.
it is easy to sit on the sidelines and throw insults around at ellected officials. but what have YOU done for South Carolina or even yur community besides fan the flames of ignorant name calling?
On a personal note, there are many, many online bloggers and websites that give ‘new-media’ journalism credibility. You just are not one of them.

A politician that chases a little puntang? Oh my God.

In other news: DOG BITES MAN.

Seriously ladies, getting a little strange isn’t going to keep this guys from getting elected. The right blend of sanctimony, contrition, biblical analogies and lip quivering could carry this boy to the Governors mansion. And given his penchant of bible thumping, we might get our first theocracy in America outside Utah. No kite flying, beer drinking or positions other than missionary.

I can’t wait for the public stoning to begin.

Stephen Barger – get a life dude. Do a little research on the 1st Amendment, and libel suits against bloggers brought by sitting politicians. Chances are you wont be too happy. And your lawyers are shitty at best….you should probably fire them.

Gresham is far and away the least intelligent of the candidates running to lead SC…..that is saying alot with McMaster in the race….but listen to the dude talk.

her = Nikki Haley?

Whoa, this is interesting and timely given the rumor mill on this site:

Gresham’s wife debuts her blog on his campaign website, where she says among other things:

“They believe in him and his principles as a devoted husband, father and public servant. However, a few people warned that if you run for state office, it will not be a pleasant experience just because that is the nature of “politics.” I hope we can prove them wrong!”

Wow, talk about the best defense being a good offense! Obviously there IS more to this than little old Will Folks posting some alleged rumors. Otherwise the campaign would not be putting all this pre-emptive stuff out there.

I guess they really do know what’s coming…

By Fashizzle on August 4th, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Excuse me, Mr. Barger.

Don’t lecture us about how great your friend is — he caved under pressure and voted for the bailout. That’s not integrity. That’s not honorable. If you are really an Army veteran then you know the true test of a man comes under fire between the hard right and the easy wrong.

Barrett took the easy wrong, and his disregard for the Constitution is enough to disqualify him from ever holding office again.

Will is a muckracker, and we need these people to keep our elected officials honest. Sure, this blog is sometimes a bit off color, but everyone gets the same equal treatment. Barrett sold out his country and you complain about some blog coverage? Pathetic.

Hey we’ve been on the beach all day … did this finally break?

By John Steinberger on August 4th, 2009 at 6:30 pm

Can we have a little more civil discourse in the coverage of this race? Please focus on issues. How do the candidates plan to reduce our 12.1% unemployment rate and raise per capita income? What are their plans to improve our well-financed and poorly performing government school system? How can we streamline our state agencies and make them more efficient, accountable and transparent? How will we be able to meet the electricity needs of a growing population and have the capacity for industrial expansion?

Let’s not turn this election into a spitball match. These are tough times which call for bold, principled leadership. We need to be well-informed and make the right choice!

By Kyle on August 4th, 2009 at 8:50 pm

Are the people saying we need more civil discourse in this race people who don’t believe Gresham Barrett has skeletons or people who don’t care that he has skeletons?

By GoCocks80 on August 5th, 2009 at 10:51 am

This bunch of crap about Gresham will produce about as much info as Senator Knotts “black love child”….talk, talk, talk and then nothing is produced. Same crap. New day. Stick to the issues…you do a half ass job at that, as it is…

By Greensport on August 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am

Simple – Time to take the Love Pledge.

I will leave it up to FITS on the beach to craft it in proper prose – but it is time for this group to take the Love Pledge.

“Have they or have they not…. ever had sex…with a man or a women…other than a wife or husband…since being married.

If not married…… with a same sex or under age partner.

Yes or no.

Get it out of the way …no whispers allowed and if folks have evidence to the contrary…the Pledge signing would be the time to air it out.

If you Pledge one way and evidence arises that you are misrepresenting the truth……like the evidence of a 60 year old mixed race love child for a South Carolina Senator proved a while back …then the voters get to factor in the evidence that you lied about this Pledge.

Sign the Love Pledge and then we can move on to policy.

I have spent the last 18 years of my life in the media and public discourse. I’ve spent the last 26 years defending and studying the 1st Amendment. Lawsuits against bloggers do not reflect anything accurately. I refer YOU to the bible of journalism the AP styleguide and libel – the professional authority for journalism.
And ‘fashizzle’ there is a big difference between ‘muckrackers’ and responsible journalist of the 4th estate. I support 4th estate digging in and getting the facts-good or bad. But just the facts: no agenda, no spin. That is a keystone to democracy. So far all I ’see’ on this blog is unsiubstantiated namecalling. I support John Steinberger’s comment on let’s get on topic.
At least 2 of us have the integrity to use our real names here.

By jeffy on August 5th, 2009 at 4:55 pm

yo Stephen Barger, the bible of blogs says “dont like it, then log off and go away”. Blah blah. You take yourself a wee bit too seriously. Hey we have a girl for you…LIZ!!!! She is a peach.

By liz shepherd on August 6th, 2009 at 8:53 am

DAT”S RIGHT….
I am a peach, I was born in Georgia. Glad you know me.

Gresham Barrett provided a fraudulent Inspector General report to me.
He looked directly into my 88 year old father’s eyes, both are Citdael grads, and LIED TO HIM.

YES MR Barrett, I told you and I told Janice McCord that I would tell everyone in America what you did to me.

You did it for Mark Sanford, the King of SC. We have this feudal system of government that the people are not aware of.

WHY NOT TELL US YOU CHANGED EVERYTHING so we can think like brainwashed C Street Cultist too.

GO LIVE IN THE WORLD YOU CREATED FOR ME>

I AM DYING, I AM BEING NEGLECTED AND PROFOUNDLY ABUSED BY BARRETT, Mark Sanford, Lindsey and multiple others.

Look at these stopped investigations. BE PROUD GUYS> YOU RUN NAZI GERMAN SOUTH CAROLINA NOW>

There are other outstanding complaints that have likewise gone without attention, unanswered for the past four miserable, frightening years. No delivered mail, UPS letters, or confirmed faxes get answered anywhere.

Too funny. He you forgot Disney Channel and the Gamecock club? Got get them investigated too Liz. Dont leave any stone unturned! Your quest for justice will be granted! (as soon as you quit writing to silly blogs like the rest of us losers all day long)Hey..have you ever checked out the Wolfe Report blog? They would take you more seriously over there. You could just switch?

By Stephen Barger on August 7th, 2009 at 9:43 am

“Jeffy”
Nope I don’t take myself too seriously. But hiding name calling and inuendo under ‘journalism’ and then saying blogs don’t have to meet the long established standards of journalism is worth discussion. And more importantly impugning the integrity of a friend and fellow Soldier and classmate requires my attention.
And if we all just logged onto blogs that we agreed with where is the discussion and insight in that?
And since the ‘insightful discourse’ seems to have come to an end.
Saa ‘ya.
