Two of South Carolina’s most influential and politically-connected attorneys have opened a new practice in downtown Columbia.
Kevin Hall and Butch Bowers, formerly partners at the law firm of Nelson Mullins, opened the doors of Hall & Bowers today with Todd Carroll, another former Nelson Mullins attorney.
Boasting extensive state and federal experience, the firm’s client roster is a “who’s who” list of prominent GOP politicians and politicos, including both U.S. Senators from South Carolina, Gov. Mark Sanford and dozens of state officials and advocacy groups.
Bowers, one of the nation’s preeminent election law attorneys, previously served at the U.S. Justice Department in Washington and as an attorney on John McCain’s presidential campaign. Hall, a former SCGOP chairman candidate, was the lead state attorney on the “I Believe” license plate case and has argued numerous high-profile cases before the S.C. Supreme Court and various federal courts.
Together at Nelson Mullins, Hall and Bowers provided counsel to the S.C. Governor’s Office, S.C. Attorney General’s Office and State Ports Authority, among other state agencies.
Given their extensive political connections, it’s not surprising that Hall and Bowers are focusing their practice on public policy law – with a special emphasis on campaign finance, advertising and election law, as well as First Amendment issues.
A significant chunk of the firm’s business is also commercial law.
And yes, they’ve heard the “Hall & Oates” jokes already …
Look for the new Hall & Bowers firm to immediately establish itself as the “go to” political law firm in South Carolina, if it hasn’t already.

Will Mr. Bowers and Mr. Hall continue to be dedicated to doing pro bono work like the “I Believe” case?

Isn’t Todd Carroll a B-C grad?

Congratulations to those guys. And yes, Todd is a proud B-C Bearcat. Unfortunately, not everybody has the opportunity to graduate from Spartanburg High, home of NFL great Stephen Davis and Gen. William Westmoreland.

word is they were somewhat forced out because their work was becoming so political and causing costing the firm lucrative clients…with that said, wish them the best. And, they may want to wait a while to have Sanford do a promo spot for them

I thought Kevin Hall was nearly on death’s door. What happened did he get better?

Mr. Hall’s bio on the Hall & Bowers, LLC web site shows he was the “Chairman of South Carolina Retirement Systems Investment Commission, 2004″
The South Carolina Retirement Systems Investment Commission’s web site says it started in 2005 and there is no mention of Mr. Hall being on the South Carolina Retirement Systems Investment Commission.
