To hear sources close to U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett tell it, their candidate has all the momentum in the race to become the next governor of South Carolina.
Last week, he received a nice fat kiss on the lips from the Club for Growth (in spite of his flip-flop on the first bailout vote) and he’s currently leading the Republican field in fund-raising.
To hear sources close to Barrett’s 2010 gubernatorial opponents talk, however, he’s a “dead man walking,” an empty suit who has skeletons in his closet that put even Gov. Mark Sanford’s multiple “line-crossings” to shame.
Which sources are correct?
We could find out as soon as this week – although we sincerely hope it’s after this week, seeing as Sic Willie and his entourage are on vacation, and we’d hate for a big story like that to break while we’re out of town.
Anyway, like several other blogs and mainstream media outlets, FITS has been investigating credible reports about Barrett that, if true, would certainly be at odds with the Holy-rolling, social conservative persona he’s cultivated for himself over the years.
These reports have been discussed so extensively among (and by) Barrett’s rival campaigns that the only question among Palmetto political observers seems to be when … not if … “the bomb” gets dropped.
“He’s finished,” a consultant working on the campaign of one of Barrett’s rivals told FITS on condition of anonymity. “This will finish him.”
An advisor to another GOP candidate said they had heard precisely the same reports, and concurred with the doom-and-gloom analysis concerning how the revelations would impact Barrett’s career.
In fact, Barrett was reportedly confronted about one of these reports head-on by one of his rivals – which prompted an “angry exchange” between the two men.
Barrett supporters tell FITS that his rivals are “running scared” and have started a whispering campaign in an effort to slow his fund-raising momentum.
Their candidate has nothing to hide, they say.
Stay tuned …

Gresham Barrett obtained a fraudulent Inspector General report for me.
A bunch of elected people have the copy. He shook my 89 year old father’s hand and looked him in the eyes and lied to him.
That’s the story.
But there is plenty more. McMaster refused to investigate… Sound familiar?????

I am a different person after the Sanford dalliance debacle.
Simple pledge…. done early in the campaign of every GOP candidate.
I Gresham Barrett,
pledge that I have never had any activity of even the slightest degree of sexual nature…
with either another women or man…
since I have been married to my wife.
The reason this does not apply to State Democrat Party candidates
is that the State and
National Democrat parties do not use principles of religious adherence as a campaign foundation… as the GOP does.
He has taken the Tax Pledge…take the Sex Pledge…please.

No matter how far Barrett falls, nothing can be done to restore Nikki Haley’s political future now that she has sunk with the S.S. Sanford.
The reform movement needs new blood and leadership.

Evidently you should add livestock to that pledge given news articles from around Conway last week about some goof ball and a horse.

Whether it is a dead girl or a live boy, whatever it takes to rid us of Barrett.

WAIT….YOU LEFT OUT ANIMALS AND EBES’(EXTRATERRESTRIAL BIOLOGICAL ENTITIES) FROM THE SEX PLEDGE….BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT WILL FINISH OUR CONGRESSMAN….WHAT WILL IS HIS CONTINUING INABILITY TO SERVE THE ENTIRE DISTRICT AND ATTRACT MULTIPLE INTEREST GROUPS TO HIS TENT….I GREW UP IN CHARLESTON….HE CAN WRITE THAT PART OF THE STATE OFF…AND WITHOUT IT, HE CAN’T WIN…SIMPLE MATH….
