Health Care Plan Would Bust Obama Pledge

The New York Times has an incredibly long article today about U.S. President Barack Obama’s plans to make rich people pay for everything in America – or at least more than they do already.

In the article, which meticulously explores the various tax hikes being proposed by President Obama and his followers, you can read quotes from various advisors in multiple presidential administrations – Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan, etc.

In fact, the longer this story got the more likely we thought we were going to end up reading something from a “former advisor to President Van Buren.”

Anyway, here’s the one quote the Times chose to put at the very end of its story … from a Clintonista:

“There is no way we can pay for health care and the rest of the Obama agenda, plus get our long-term deficits under control, simply by raising taxes on the wealthy,” said Isabel V. Sawhill, a former Clinton administration budget official. “The middle class is going to have to contribute as well.”

Ruh-roh … apparently there is only so much wealth to be spread around.

Of course, what the article neglects to point out is that taxing the rich the way Obama is proposing will directly result in lost middle class jobs.

For example, 60% of the “super-rich” who would have to pay Obama’s new health care surtax have partnership or small business income on their tax returns. Twenty percent of these “super-rich” derive over half their income from partnership or small business income.

In other words, those super-rich people are going to have to fire people who  … well … aren’t.

Thanks, FitsGals, for summing this fine mess up so succinctly:

“those super-rich people are going to have to fire people who … well … aren’t.”

>>> What does BHO NOT GET about that?! <<<

Great graphic! I notice Obama, Pelosi, and Reid but who is that on the far left?

Let’s get real folks. Have you not listened to what our President has been saying? It will not be socialized medicine. Guess you are one of the lucky ones that still has a job and makes more than 250,000 a year. Wha-wha-wha. You’ll have to pay your fair share in taxes. Bout time.
The party’s over. Time to get back to reality. Why should someone making a quarter of what you make pay a higher percentage in federal income taxes than you do?

Maybe if W didn’t get us into Iraq, we’d have plenty of money left. The money we have spent there completely unneccessarily, was astonomical. Just what we paid Halliburten alone (Dick’s pals that got all those no bid contracts) could have fed millions. Maybe if W didn’t lower the tax rate for those making a good living, we’d have plenty of money left. But his base, the “haves and haves more” are the only ones crying the blues right now. You guys lost the election and we now have to clean up W’s mess.
If you have sufficient medical coverage that your employer provides, consider yourself lucky. There are millions of people like my family that pays for our own and they have increased our premiums 10% in the last quarter and we have little to no income. We used to have a very good income, lived comfortably, but no more. So until you have walked in the shoes of someone that is worried about being able to pay for next month’s health insurance premium because God forbid you got sick or had an accident and didn’t have health insurance, and then to top it off a mortgage, etc… then let’s talk.

Isabel V. Sawhill, a former Clinton administration budget official? Ugh, so a low-level Clinton era official, not in the current adminstration, said something and you cite that as proof? Even by you already weak standard of evidence, this is pitiful.

By the way, the top tax rate is far lower now, and under the current proposals in Congress, then what we have historically seen in the 20th century. So by that yardstick, we’ve been a communist country for 70 plus years.

Pat Hendrix HOW DARE YOU USE FACTS (as opposed to emotion) to discuss and consider tax policy in the United States!?!? This is about firing up the base, and if you started to point out what marginal income tax rates were during the Reagan Presidency or how many corporate and high income tax give-aways have (a) bank-rupted the government, and (b) killed the U.S. job market and manufacturing base, and (c) incentivised companies moving U.S. jobs overseas…I am going to be so mad at you!!!!

Now look at the Barack Obama as communist picture, laugh, then internally get “mad about how much of a socialist country” this place turned into starting on Jan. 21, 2009. That is what is expected of you – but if you dare use your brain and consider facts or try to insert U.S. history into this debate again so help me!
