Obviously, Clempsun University running back CJ Spiller is nowhere to be found in the Top 10 (or even Top 20) of most 2009 preseason Heisman Trophy watchlists.

He’s certainly nowhere to be found on our list.

But this is the Palmetto State, where people will get excited about pretty much anything. And where universities abnormally obsessed with their image like to spend money on just about anything (except lowering tuition).

And so we have Moo U’s official CJ Spiller for Heisman campaign, which on Wednesday will dump 4,000 life-sized Spiller posters on supermarkets and quick stops all over the Upstate.

Seriously, people. These things are six-feet-tall …

Clearly, it’s going to be a hot time in Easley and Pelzer, S.C. tonight!

Go Farmers!

What would you have Clemson do? Put out life size posters of USC’s Heisman winner snorting? BTW, don’t critize farmers with your mouth full.

granted, Spiller is a longshot. But, he has the physical tools to win it. Cue up a Spiller reel on youtube and you’ll see him do some things that very few players (at any level) can. Of course, working against him are:

    1. his size
    2. he won’t be playing on a nat’l championship contending team
    3. his O-line was HORRIBLE last year and may be again
    4. he’s not a “traditional” 30 carry/game back, so his total rushing numbers are not going to be extraordinary (although the all-important yd/carry may be)
    5. he doesn’t have the supporting cast on offense a lot of the other players do

So, can he win it? He has enough talent and then some. Will he? Pretty unlikely. But, it would be crazy not to promote him.

and, btw, the Heisman is granted after the season and not before it. And obviously, he would have no chance at 5.4/carry or whatever he got last year, which is probably why he’s not on anyone’s short list. But, the university is gambling that it is possible his line might not suck this year, and that with James Davis gone, he’ll get more carries (and thus can put up higher totals).

I’m sure he’s still a longshot, but he turned down being a definite first day selection in the NFL draft to come back, so anything can happen.

The fact that any USC fan could ever run their mouth to a Clemson fan is laughable at best. I’m not talking about just sports either, ANYTHING.

BIN has a better shot at winning than Spiller.
Kawaski, why are you commenting on a clemson story? I figured under your rules only Clemtucky fans could comment?
Im thinking BIN/Kawaski are the same person??????

Exactly what market are they trying to target? Heisman voters? I can only think of one of those in South Carolina, and I don’t think Spiller has impressed him much.

Toyota, Clemson has not only “adopted” George Rodgers Blvd, they OWN WB stadium. BTW the rent is due and they will be there to collect on Nov. 28.

    cnysd,

you are correct. I will be there. USuC is a pathetic excuse for a football team. It is a place where the “hall of Fame” coaches go to die. I assume Holtz and Spurrier will have an * by there name.
