Bauer Posts Soft Fundraising Totals
S.C. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer – one of the top three presumed candidates for the 2010 Republican gubernatorial nomination – posted a slow fund-raising quarter according to campaign finance documents filed Wednesday.
Bauer raised just $120,000 over the last three months – and spent $50,000 over the same period – giving him only $570,000 cash on hand.
By contrast, U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett raised $750,000 in the last quarter and has $1.5 million on hand to spend (including money in his Congressional account), while S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster raised $270,000 and has $1.1 million on hand.
S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley, the only other Republican to raise significant cash, brought in $200,000 in the last quarter.
Bauer’s weak fundraising effort surprised many political observers, although he and McMaster will both benefit from the advantage of statewide name identification, something Barrett and Haley must purchase.
Still, Bauer’s lethargic fund-raising quarter is something that can’t be repeated if he expects to be competitive in what is sure to be an expensive (and expansive) GOP contest.

Will:
It should be noted that both top tier Dem candidates, Sheheen and McLeod, out raised Bauer for the Q.

I genuinely think that the pundits and folks who revere Bauer for his “relentless campaigning ability” and unbroken winning streak will be surprised when the race gets going. People are catching on to Andre’s vibe and there’s some fatigue setting in there…

The fixation on the letter, R or D, after a candidate’s name is what got us Sanfraud.

Ok wait… let’s talk votes and not money for a change.
SC residents watched in horror as the Attorney General refused to investigate a Governor who ” took missing” .
The Lt. Governor looked like a kid who might actually get to go in the candy shop for a change and grinned and never once took up for the people of the state.
Both of them refused to service the needs of the citizens of this state.
THEY ARE OUT> SORRY GUYS YOU BLEW IT>
Then Gresham Barrett…. well don’t ya think we ought to find out if he lives or worships at C Street before we even consider him.
FITS et al, you are going to find a hostile voting public on these three names come election time. I promise ya that.

Lord…if we had a Democrat governor instead of a fiscal conservative we’d be in the same shape as California or Michigan. Hopefully people won’t drink the Obama kool-aid for the governorship. My vote’s for Nikki Haley – hopefully she can pull it out in the primaries.

Arnold is a Republican, by the way, to K Trane.
