Nice Timing …

davidson-am

Apparently, newspapers are too broke to be polite these days.

Take the case of former Tennessee Titans quarterback (and former living person) Steve McNair and his new restaurant, Gridiron9, which got a nice review in the ad-packed biweekly throwaway supplement to The Tennessean.

McNair is now, you might have heard, dead.

Indeed. In a violent murder-suicide, no less.

Of course, the bean-counters at Gannett figured they would rather take flak for poor timing (and taste) than pull the supplement.

“We apologize for the timing of the story,” Tennessean publisher Ellen Leifeld said in a supplement to the ill-timed supplement.

Mmm-hmm.

“We really could not find a feasible way to pull all of them back and re-do it in a reasonable time,” one of the paper’s VP’s told Editor and Publisher.

Ca-ching!
