And The Point Of This Is?

In his latest attempt to show an increasingly-skeptical public that he’s still, you know, “governor,” Mark Sanford heads to Charleston, S.C. today to get a briefing on Project Seahawk, a federal “port security” program that should cost a helluva lot less to implement seeing as South Carolina has pretty much scared all of its port business away in recent years.

The visit represents Sanford’s second attempt to “get back to business” in the wake of admitting an extramarital affair with his Argentine lover, Maria Belen Chapur.

The first attempt actually worked, too, at least until Sanford decided to start talking about how Chapur was his “soul mate” and how he had “crossed lines” with other women.

Anyway, from the official release issued this morning by the governor’s office:

11:30 a.m. – Gov. Sanford will be at the Port of Charleston to join Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Senator Lindsey Graham for a briefing on Project Seahawk. Seahawk is a federally funded security task force aimed at protecting the Port against acts of terrorism. The briefing is not open to the public, and Gov. Sanford will not be attending the subsequent media availability.

Hmmm … let’s plug this into our handy-dandy bureaucratic translator, shall we?

11:30 a.m. – Gov. Sanford desperately needed something “official” to do today, and this is frankly all we could come up with on short notice. And while we are counting on numerous photographs being taken today of the governor acting in his “official” capacity, we are absolutely, positively not permitting any situation in which he might (for even a second) open his fool mouth. In fact, if the governor starts talking, please tackle him.

Sound about right?

SC governor to attend private port briefing
- isn’t that what got him in trouble in the first place?

Who cares about his “public” schedule? We’ve moved on…just wish HE would.

King David needs to be seen (in his own mind) by his subjects. We are of such lower intellect than he, he must carry on. Why we would be lost without him. From what I read posted on The State website yesterday, the Governor’s office is his “refuge” and this is where he needs to be so his wife can keep an eye on him. I must have lost that page from the job description for Governor.

Is Sanford still on Napolitano’s watch list?

What in the world is going on with Sanford? First off, why is he allowed to attend this meeting in the first place? I mean, you would think he would have to have special security clearance to attend. Secondly, even if Sanford did have it to begin with, should he not have lost it because of his “interests” with a foreign national? I am not trying to question the judgment of the good folks of Seahawk (I really admire there project greatly), but I question whether Marky-Mark has any real business being there in the first place.

What does his man have to do to get “fired”? I am so embarrassed by him and his disregard for all of us. His right wing cronies obviously will stick with him thru thick and thin. I hope we all will not vote for those in office who support him, and boycott those who own businesses. I still am waiting for him to come to my house to apologize. Has he forgotten that? Oh, of course, he never meant to apologize to the regular folks of this state. What a horrible 2 terms of apathy and disrespect. I want him gone, now. There are other things that need to be uncovered by the press. Get going guys.
