Sanford Loses Book Deal
“Within Our Means” by S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford (foreword by Thomas Friedman?) was supposed to be the definitive statement of fiscal conservatism for the 21st Century – a road map back to responsible government amid an advancing sea of socialism.
Now?
Not so much.
From Crain’s:
Sentinel, a conservative imprint of Penguin Group, said Thursday that it released Mr. Sanford from his contract to publish Within Our Means, a book on the governor’s policy beliefs, that had been slated for release in 2010.
“Sentinel has agreed to release Governor Mark Sanford…from his contract to write a book about fiscal conservatism,” a statement said, calling the decision “mutual.”
The book would have been Mr. Sanford’s second. In 2000, he published (the) ironically titled The Truth Committed to Me.
Actually, Sanford’s first book was called “The Trust Committed To Me,” but either way, it’s pretty funny.
And while there will probably be plenty of book deals inked in the wake of the governor’s affair with his Argentine lover, Maria Belen Chapur, (and the disastrous fallout from it) we highly doubt fiscal policy will be discussed at length in any of them.
Tan lines, on the other hand …

When is he going to realize that because of his “soul mate” he has practically lost everything he has been working for all his life. I don’t see how his wife can forgive him if his mind and heart is somewhere else. Maybe she should let him go so he can find out for himself how unrealistic his love is. He will go to Argentina to be with his love and see how long that will last. Once the relationship gets over the initial “lusty” period, he will begin to feel the other impacts. Culture shock in a foreign country, her life and how different it is outside of the bedroom, her children, her family, his lack of a career in a spanish speaking country. He will soon miss his sons, his friends, his family and he will finally realize his soul mate really was Jenny who has been the great woman behind his every success prior to this mess.
I hope he takes this route – because it’s the only way he will understand the impact of what he’s done. Forgiving him is only going to shield him for a period – he will always wonder about the soulmate he had to sacrifice. Come on Jenny, let him go dig his own grave where he will die alone, but hey, he’ll die knowing he’s met his soul mate.

I was very disturbed by Governor Sanford’s invoking of the name of King David. He needs to go and read 1st and 2nd Samuel. What he will find is that, first of all, unless his heart has really been broken by his own sinfulness, he is not like King David. He is, unfortunately, like King Saul, who was cursed by God and removed from his throne. Secondly, even though God accepted David back into an intimate relationship with Himself and blessed David in many ways after his true repentance (see Psalm 53), David suffered the loss of three children, one of the children being Absolom who tried to take David’s throne and other unspeakable family problems. I do pray that Governor Sanford will be broken hearted about his sin and will patiently work to get his family back. Right now that doesn’t look hopeful.

Some other people want to make money off Sanford and this mess! Yesterday afternoon (Wed), on Forrest Dr. I drove behind two vans with NC plates with bold advertising. One painted in pink advertising http://www.thecheatbook.com . Call 910-273-3941. The other newer white van with shiny fresh paint job, had “I (the shape of SC in black with a large red heart shape in the center) followed by ARGENTINA” and the same web address and phone number. I have the license plate numbers if needed. Wonder who those people are?

Oh, good, I don’t have to save up to buy this book. O.K., I would not buy any book by him. About him, maybe, especially if written by Al Franken, or Kitty Kelly.
