Bauer’s Odd Interview
Obviously, every bit as gripping as the public implosion of S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford is the behind-the-scenes maneuvering for his “throne.”
Wait, “throne?”
That’s right. As they say, “if the crown fits,” right?
And let’s face it, being governor of South Carolina is a lot like being Queen of England – you get a lot of pomp and circumstance but precious little in the way of power and command.
Still, it’s obviously not necessarily the worst gig in the world, which is why S.C. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer very clearly wants it – and is very clearly willing to say anything necessary to get it.
Yesterday, we praised Bauer’s “bold move” – in which he said he would not run for governor in 2010 if Sanford were to resign.
Today, however, there’s evidence that Bauer is reconsidering that decision.
From the Charleston Regional Business Journal, and an extraordinary grocery store encounter between Bauer and reporter Molly Parker …
Bauer indicated he was not willing to forgo a run for governor to appease those critics, or to mitigate concerns that he would gain an unfair advantage in a 2010 race should Sanford resign and he become governor. Bauer told CNN on Monday that such a scenario might help calm the political storm clouding the overriding question about whether Sanford should resign.
“We are at an impasse now because it’s all about 2010 and the next governor’s race, and I don’t see anyone being an adult,” he told CNN.
But on Wednesday, Bauer said: “I am running” when asked whether he was thinking about bowing out of the race. But clearly growing frustrated by the interview he did not want to have, Bauer paused, and then said, “Again, I’m not saying I’m running.”
Bauer said he had already said too much, and didn’t want to give a story he wasn’t ready to talk about.
“I don’t want to answer any more questions — please,” he said, walking away.
Clearly, something is up here.
Is Bauer backing off of his pledge?

maybe Maria has a sister for him, and Andre can take a permanent vacation to Argentina with Mark!
what will it take to make them both GO AWAY FOREVER?

Could be, just like he backed off his ‘06 pledge to “never” run for governor. Dumbass liar.

I don’t see the big deal… If he decides to run in 2010, he will still have to get elected. People in SC are not going to just re-elect him because he happens to have taken over the office due to Sanfords resignation, etc.
If so many people are concerned about Bauer in 2010, then chances are he probably would not even get the nomination?

And if he suprises everyone by doing a great job, then he deserves to be judged on those merits as well. There shouldn’t be a quid pro quo in order for Bauer to take over the Gov office (or for Sanford to step down)… Sanford has done enough as of yesterday to warrant all of this on his own.

Look Andre will do whatever Cubby tells him to do. Period.

You have to be kidding. I would rather have a Christian governor who is struggling with passion for another woman, which happens, than a man who was so crazy he was driving at over 100 miles per hour. What is his sexutal preference. Does he even profess to be a Christian. We would be going to a much worse sitution.

BT- I respect what you are saying, however, we don’t want a “Pastor In Chief” do we?? Let’s keep “religion” out of governing abilities.

When did the word redneck disappear from our vocabulary? Andre is as red as a fire truck, and that says it all. He cannot overcome that.

Since McMaster refused to investigate, I would say the people of South Carolina will outright reject him , as usual. He wins only if the voting machines are rigged. No one likes Henry. He just screwed the taxpayers of the state with his…. Oh I don’t think anything is wrong. YES IT IS HENRY>
Bauer, well he is in a bad spot but stop talking Andre. If you are one of ” them” you won’t have to worry about running either. If not, you’ll survive and maybe have a shot at the mansion.
Gresham Barrett is as bad a choice as McMaster. Evil pure and simple. I can prove this point too in print…. just ask. I’d be delighted to show all of you what Barrett did to me.
I’d say NEW BLOOD is absolutely necessary in this state all the way around. Otherwise, we all get another bad deal.

I have heard that Andre and one of our US senators are both in the closet. I don’t want another scandel, so let’s find some leaders who are not hypocrites.
