Sanford’s Lover Breaks Her Silence
S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford’s Argentine lover, Maria Belen Chapur, broke her four-day silence yesterday – denying a New York Times report that a jealous young lover emailed a South Carolina paper about her affair.
Instead, Chapur says her Hotmail (and do we ever mean hotmail) account was hacked last November. Who did it? Chapur isn’t saying, although she claims to have a “firm suspicion” of the hacker’s identity.
Here is the complete text of Chapur’s statement, which was released to Argentine TV station CN5:
1. I won’t speak about my private life as it just belongs to me. It has already been made too public during these last days, bringing to me even more pain.
2. I categorically deny that the individual who hacked my hotmail account was the one friend with whom I shared days in Brazil in the Rolex Regatta. This friend, as you could all well read in my recently published e-mails, is an excellent, respectable and honorable man incapable of making anything similar to that. Far away from being the author of this evil action he was instead another victim. In December 2008, the stolen e-mails were sent by the hacker to him as well as to the newspaper The State.
3. My hotmail account was hacked around November 24th, through an old e-mail account under my name provided by an Argentine company. I made my denouncement at that time at the Argentine company, where my old account was still opened, as did the denouncement at hotmail. I was finally able to close down that old account and to recover by December 8th, my hacked hotmail account, after answering a long questionnaire sent by Microsoft. All this is registered in Microsoft as well as in the Argentine company. I kept all my requests and the answers given by Microsoft at that time, company that with great speed and effectiveness solved my problem making possible the recovery of my hotmail. Also the Argentine company, via a telephone call, decided to immediately close down that account as an exception, due to the gravity of my denouncement , despite not belonging this account to my home address.
3. Finally, I do have a firm suspicion of whom particularly may have done this great damage directed specially to me, but at the same time destroying the life of so many others. Not counting on the sufficient proves and living according to the rule of law, I am myself forced to maintain the individual’s name in anonymity. I am not the one to judge anyone, I leave this in God’s hands.
We’re just reading the tea leaves here, but it sounds like our report last week that Chapur’s ex-husband was the one allegedly behind the leak could be dead-on.
Then again, there is no shortage of South Carolina suspects, either.

“Maria Belen Chapur reportedly got to know S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford through online chatting in 2001.”

“The witness told the radio station that someone matching Mark Sanford’s description arrived at the complex, alone, with a small sports bag last week and asked to go inside the building.”
Maria Belen Chapur, lives in an upscale apartment building next to the Buenos Aires Zoo, in a trendy neighborhood that is also near the US Embassy.
A witness who works in the building described her to Buenos Aires Continental Radio as a beautiful brunette with big eyes who plays tennis on a nearby lawn and runs every morning in her neighborhood.
The witness told the radio station that someone matching Sanford’s description arrived at the complex, alone, with a small sports bag last week and asked to go inside the building.
The news site also reported that she worked for an agribusiness company called Bunge, but that appears to be incorrect. According to their lovesick emails that were given to South Carolina’s State newspaper, Shapur also makes semi-regular trips to New York City, the Daily News reports.
Celebrity gossip website TMZ quoted Buenos Aires bar owner Carlos Soto as saying he saw the governor and his mistress last week.
He said they were “all over each over” in his Italian bar and restaurant, “kissing, holding hands and drinking wine.” Soto said Maria has green eyes, dirty blonde hair and an impressive figure.

Maria, I think your reckless and selfish actions destroyed the lives of others, not the hacker.

find it interesting that she blames someone the “hacker” who sent the emails to the State as the person who has destroyed so many live. Uh, honey, that was you when you participated in the affair. You are not an innocent.

Sanford supporters who continue to press the idea that Sanford’s enemies are behind this story getting out remind me so much of the Democrats who villified Linda Tripp back in 1998 for betraying her friend, Monica Lewinsky.
Sanford is the problem. He is a vindictive jerk who is finding out that what goes around, comes around. He has been a reasonably good governor from a management point of view, but he personally has set the reform movement back a decade by his pettiness and childishness….and that was BEFORE the story of the affari broke.
Even his supporters, who are doing all they can to minimalize this story and to drown out the calls for investigation of misuse of taxpayer funds, cannt find a way to defend him. His story is constantly changing, he is putting his personal desires above the needs of his wife, his “wonderful” sons, the reform movement he claimed to champion and at the end of the day, the people of SC.

Maria is sending a message to Markiepoo that she was not running around on HIM. ha ha ha ha ha ha You gotta laugh at these clowns; otherwise, one could weep at the shame and ridicule Sanford continues to heep on SC.

We would most likely ALL fail a morality test at some point in our lives. NONE of us are sinless. If you don’t like Sanford for his political views that’s okay, but to pick him a part because of this affair is a disgrace … so while the nation is watching for SC’s reaction how will you behave ? Will you show forgiveness for your fellow Christian or continue to cast your “i’m holier than you stones” from the safety of your “private sinful world”.

Terrabone and Wkea
Why attack the Paramour? She is not married. She is free to date or sleep with whomever she wishes. There is only one person responsible for all the damage here, and he has barricaded himself in the Governor’s Mansion, from whence he will force us to listen to his mia culpa’s, apologies, and lets get on with our lives speeches for the next 18 months.

Charles, I’m sure you’d say the same thing about a dude that bangs your wife.
By PandaChris on June 29th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
I dont think a single soul, except for his wife and his four “wonderful” sons are upset with DSanford’s affair.
Rather it is the hypocrisy of a man going after other politicians for much less serious sins and the two-facedness of his political supporters who have ripped the Governor’s so-called enemies apart, left and right, for errors that pale in comparison to those the governor is committing in running SC.

Terrabone,
I have no concerns in that regard, but marriage is a TWO party contract. Outside parties make no promises to anyone. As the old saying goes, “all is fair in love and war.” People who don’t believe that saying to be true are fools. If your wife “bangs” another guy, and you blame the guy and forgive her, what can I say.
By Terrabone on June 29th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Charles,
Perhaps it may be possible to blame BOTH parties? Unfortunately, all is not “fair in love” because adultery is considered a criminal act of BOTH parties in South Carolina. Also, until very recently a non-spouse adulterer could be held liable in a civil action as well.
By Charles on June 29th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Ah, but they were not in South Carolina.
Yes you can blame both parties, but I wouldn’t expect the guy who picked your wife up in a bar, or on the internet, to be too concerned about your feelings or being prosecuted for adultry.
Was Clinton’s downfall Monica’s fault? Was Edwards’ downfall Rielle Hunter’s fault? Was Elliott Spitzer’s downfall the hooker’s fault? If you say yes, i’ll defer to your judgement.
