The Real Maria Belen Chapur
Maria Belen Chapur’s lone appearance on Argentinian television eight years ago is now making the rounds on the Internet, and grainy screen captures from the September 2001 video represent the only available images of the woman whose affair with S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford has made international news.
Paparazzi, TV cameras and dozens of reporters have been stalking Chapur’s residence in Buenos Aires for days, but Chapur – if she is inside – has not shown herself.
FITS has now been able to confirm that the Maria Chapur that Argentine media initially claimed was Sanford’s lover is actually Maria Elisa Chapur, a Buenos Aires artist.

Philandering South Carolina governor Mark Sanford has said little about the most beautiful sound he ever heard, “Maria,” his horizontal tango partner from Argentina, so TMZ.com did a little lurking around Buenos Aires night spots.
Carlos Soto, owner of Guido’s Bar, says Sanford and Maria Belen Chapur have stopped in several times over the last few months – most recently last week, while Sanford was – wink, wink – hiking the Appalachian Trail to decompress after a tough legislative session.
Soto says the lovers were “all over each other” last week, “kissing, holding hands and drinking wine.”
As for Maria, Soto said she has green eyes, dirty-blond hair and “un cuerpazo,” which TMZ translated to mean “a banging body.”

What is the significance of that? He and his wife were apparently on the outs. He wasn’t living with her. Not really that surprising he would be making trips to see his lover under such circumstances. I just want to see some recent pics. Not these low quality vidcaps from a decade ago. What’s the significance? It’s not that he had the affair. It’s that he was lying to the state of South Carolina on his whereabouts.
This is exactly like Bill Clinton. He wasn’t impeached for the affair. He was impeached for LYING about it.
This Sanford guy should not still be in office. Do the respectable thing and resign.

Funny, how Sanford apologists keep talking about his so-called repentance, his “King David” like seeking of forgiveness, the “tearful and heartfelt drama” of his public confession at his press conference.
This man has been screwing around on his wife and 4 “wonderful” sons. That happens all the time. No reason to resign and plenty of reason for his supporters to ask people to leave him and his family alone with these very personal problems.
But notice how his supporters are all up in arms over “who leaked the emails?”, but not over the misuse of tax dollars for his liaison.
His supporters are KILLING the reform movement by not immediately refusing to defend this man….in the future, you guys will have zero credibility when you go after politicians for wasteing tax payer dollars.
Mark Sanford has abdicated his role as spokesman for the reform movement. He is a cornered man and like all cornered men, is making colossal mistakes in his approach to this situation.
But his supporters? You have NO EXCUSE for not trying to SAVE the reform movement that is being killed RIGHT NOW by the Governor.
In 2010, when RINOS retake the GOP nominations and perhaps a DEM is elected Governor, REMEMBER that your failure to ACT NOW to end this circus will be as much responsible for that failure as anything the Governor has or will do.

Shes pretty…hes dumb…his wife has morals and commitment. He wasnt in love with Maria he was in lust.He doesn’t know what love is or he wouldn’t have become a deserter to his job and his wife.He should learn about love from his wife ,after all thats what marriage is about. Some country guy wrote a song about him though” his middle age crazy trying to prove he still can”. He should get continue to get help and counseling and rekindle the marriage. I also think he should resign his job since the hasnt proven he will in the near to distant future be willing to lead the State he broke his vow to.

Today’s State paper if full of national editorials and comments on Sanford. Whether you agree with them or not, I have to snicker a bit when I read them. I have not been a fan of Sanford even before all this because he seemed out of touch with the people of SC, especially the unemployed. He seemed to have a “let them eat cake” attitude about him. Being rich he does not have a clue what it is to struggle to live. Now we know that his mind (and a few other things) were elsewhere.

I have issue w/ the comments that Maria has no class & Jenny does. What do you know about Maria? Exactly: nothing, so that was a frivolous comment. Regarding Jenny, she is in a loveless marriage and still now, when the whole world knows that her husband is cheating on her, she still will not divorce him: all for the sake of power and the privilege of living in the governor’s mansion. I’d say she most certainly does not have much personality, morals or self-respect. There’s no reason why a sitting governor should resign because of his having an affair, but there most certainly is a reason for a wife to denounce him and leave him; if she doesn’t, it says a lot about her – and none of it is good.

You can tell alot about a person’s character by his/her actions. She took a man that she knew was married as her lover. You can say all you want about J. Sanford not having any personality, morals, or self-respect, but she only recently found out her husband was sleeping with another woman. Maria has known all along that her man was sleeping with another woman (unless she fell victim to the “my wife and I no longer sleep together” ruse – another topic for another time).

Fine. Sanford should be impeached because he displayed extremely poor judgement when he lied to his staff (even going so far as to buy camping equipment to give the appearance that he was bound for the Appalachian trail), left his post, and ran off to Argentina. And what about the little “side trip” to Argentina when he was in Latin America on state business? That was financed by the tax-payers of SC.

Know your facts people. He cheated on his wife. She found out when he asked her to get a document from his study and she found some reciepts and emails. He then promised he would not see the woman again and they were working out their marriage. Then on FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND!!!! he disappeared for 6 days to go and be with his mistress.
Maria has no morals because any woman with morals would not sleep with a married man. She would have demanded that he get divorced before they began their romantic relationship.
The Gov wife was a 6 figure big shot on Wall Street. She left her job to stand by her husband’s side. She was a good woman and her man is a liar and a cheater. Like stated, if we can’t trust him to be honest with his wife whom he loves then how do we expect him to be honest with us people he doesn’t give a hoot about??
