Two South Carolina women rumored to have had affairs with S.C. Governor Mark Sanford are both flatly denying those allegations today, one directly and the other through her attorney.

Clare Morris, a former Sanford staffer and owner of a successful local public relations firm, and Kitty Sutton, a dance professor at the University of South Carolina, have both been accused by multiple, independent sources of having carried on romantic relationships with the governor – who yesterday admitted to having an affair with a woman in Argentina.

Sanford, for his part, has also flatly denied any affair beyond the one to which he has publicly confessed.

“It’s absurd, absolutely insane,” Morris told FITS of the rumors that she and the governor had a romantic relationship. “To tell you the truth, I don’t even like him that much.”

Morris worked with Sanford in his Washington office during the mid-1990’s. She later served in his gubernatorial administration as Communications Director at the Department of Commerce from 2003-06. A triathlete, Morris is the owner of the Clare Morris Agency, a successful Columbia-area public relations firm that advises mostly corporate clients.

Sutton’s attorney, Columbia criminal defense lawyer Joseph M. McCulloch, Jr., told FITS that the reports that his client has had a romantic relationship with the governor in the past are also false.

“My client has no relationship or information regarding the rumors surrounding the governor,” McCulloch said in a statement provided to FITS. “The rumors are entirely baseless, and she has asked me to vigorously pursue the source of the rumors and deal with them in the harshest way possible through the enforcement of our defamation laws in civil court, if necessary.”

Sources tell FITS that the rumors involving both Sutton and Morris – as well as an as-yet-unidentified third woman – are all originating from the State House lobby, a place where the anti-special interest governor has never been very popular.

Sutton was not immediately available for comment, although sources tell FITS that she has left Columbia for the time being as a result of the rumors.

Morris, for her part, said that she felt sorry for Sanford.

“My heart just bleeds for him and his family,” she said.

Morris said she had not spoken with Sanford in over a year.

I cant wait for Bauer to get to be the governor. Then we can have men denying affairs with him. Columbia could be the East Coast’s San Francisco.

The knives are out now, and I suspect it’s all b.s. Look, everybody knows how I feel about Sanford as a governor. But there’s never been any indication whatsoever that he’s some sort of Lothario.

The Congress is trying to pass some bull crap cap and trade tax . I called Henry Brown’s office yesterday and his aide assured me Henry would not be supporting the bill.,Henry was out of the office with a woman from Chile.

I heard Lindsay Graham was gonna fight the cap and trade bill with all he had, but he was busy attending a ribbon-cutting at a new airport men’s room with Larry Craig.

i think the person doing this website is seriously disturbed and has a vendetta against mark sanford

By anonymous on June 26th, 2009 at 7:25 pm

amazed,

what if the person ‘doing this website’ has grounds for a little reckoning with his former boss? what if Will’s political future was sabotaged to get him out of the Gov’s office because “someone” knew Will wouldn’t cover for the Gov’s kitty chasing?

that would really be the pits if these things go back a couple more years than the Gov. is letting on.

does anybody else see a delusions of grandeur complex at work? King David strategy, indeed.

I was disturbed when Sanford named his mistress first when apologizing and his sons and his wife last. He loves his mistress. She probably has the curvey behind like Jennifer Lopez. He was willing to lose everything for that. You could tell he would give up his family if he hadn’t been caught like that. To be away on Father’s Day-Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Has the universe gone mad? Mark Sanford has all the sexual appeal of a slimy lizzard wtih halitosis. His failings as husband and father pale in comparison to his failings as Governor. When Time Magazine named him as one of the worst Governors in the country several years ago, they had no clue as to what would come. His legacy as a man is pathetic.

At least we know why his economic development record is so pitiful – he was chasing scanky women instead of jobs to reduce our 12% unemployment rate. He was writing Harlequin romance worthy love platitutes instead of working on economic policy – thus our state is practically bankrupt. He was fantazing about curvy hips and the lack of tan lines instead of thinking about how to restore resources to our schools.

Let him stay as Governor. He will be ineffective and a pariah, so perhaps now the legislature can get on with correcting all the harm he has caused South Carolina. They’ve got 1 1/2 years to set things straight. Just lock this nut behind the gates on Bull Street. With his cuts to mental health, there is plenty of room for him.

“Amazed”…..you are new to this little blog uh? Hold on, it will get worse, much worse.
Kitty Sutton hires Joe to say she didn’t? That sort of says she did? Isn’t she getting a divorce?
Oh yeah by the way, the hypocrite liar should resign.

By palfamcondirector on June 27th, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Greg Dellany for Gov.!!! Enough with carpetbagger
dirt bags. I’m tired shilling for the old liar and
his yankee wife.

These politicians act like toddlers who think they can’t be seen if they cover their eyes. He thought no one would find out he went to Argentina?? And would anyone have cared if he had left a contact number?

By carl on June 28th, 2009 at 4:35 am

what about the cardiologist’s wife??

By Jeffy on June 28th, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Carl……that’s sutton right?

By Laura Brown on June 29th, 2009 at 2:21 pm

Sanford wants out of this marriage. This much is certain. Unless he divorces, he’ll lose whatever is left of his manhood. Time to grow up and stop the charade and divorce.
