Sources: Jilted Ex-Husband Leaked Sanford Emails

email

The racy, private email messages that have S.C. Governor Mark Sanford in the middle of a political firestorm are said to have originated from the jilted ex-husband of the governor’s alleged mistress, Maria Belen Chapur, sources are telling FITS.

A source at The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper, which published several of the emails yesterday afternoon, could not confirm who sent them, however.

The paper originally received the emails several months ago but declined to investigate whether or not they were authentic until this week.

Obviously, this would be quite an interesting twist to this ongoing saga as most people – including us – naturally assumed that the emails were leaked by a political opponent of Gov. Sanford here in the United States.

Well, too bad your sources aren’t credible.

By Esmarelda on June 25th, 2009 at 8:48 pm

And you’re buying that? The scorned ex-Mr. Maria Belen, gets to her computer or gets her password (plausible) and knows exactly where to forward the e-mails — that bastian of insightful, investigative journalism (where all the decent reporters have been either fired, retired, laid off or died) with all of these savvy, globally-famed, highly respected reporters. Uh-huh. Right. Meanwhile, the largest English-speaking daily in Argentina is owned by the Post & Courier, but those people are too chicken-shit and bought off to pursue anything that requires getting off their flat, fat asses or offending their future employers.

The more likely scenarios are: the e-mails made their way to the Argentine sister paper of the Post & Courier (because body knows what The State is, other than to assume it’s a marxist wrag in Venezuela or Bolivia), which may have forwarded it to Charleston’s Post and Courier (but Larry Tarleton was on his way out and a hugely paid-off hack), which then made its way to Glenn McConnel who then slipped the info to his closet-mate and fairy queen brother, Andre Bauer; who simply twirled over the juicy tidbits. Andre assumes the timing and diversion would shift the dark shadow from his chief of staff, the elder abuser (and himself who hopes to collect from the elderly campaign contributors) and lastly cast him as the likely gubernatorial replacement (and he wouldn’t even have to wait until the election). Queens scheme that way.

By Brian on June 25th, 2009 at 9:00 pm

That is probably another way for whatever opponent actually leaked them to cover their butts. The only person that could confirm that the ex-husband leaked the e-mails if they were anonymous is the ex-husband. There is no way it could be confirmed by multiple sources unless someone saw him send the info in.
Think about it, by putting the blame off on someone else that lives in another country, they deflect suspicion from themselves and can sit back and laugh about it.

By male sapphist on June 25th, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Very interesting. I suspect wholly false. Someone in the executive’s office is where I put my greatest suspicion.

By Esmarelda on June 25th, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Obviously, a scorned ex normally forwards the information to the lover’s spouse. That’s what happens. When she or he does with it depends on the waves of ire and emotional reaction.

By PandaChris on June 25th, 2009 at 10:32 pm

So, lets see….

spinmeisters are trying to make the story that Sanford committed a peraonal sin but as bad as that is, it really is the enemies on his “hit list” that are twisting this into something more sinister.

I guess that means Jenny “I dont know where my husband and daddy of my children is on Gather’s Day” and Mr. “I loved a girl named Maria” jilted ex-husband and oh so close friend of the governor are the political culprits who need to be investigated. BS!

The truth is for YEARS Mark Sanford has called for the resignation of politicians like Clinton and his supporters worked doubletime wrecking the lives of Catherine Ceips and Wallace Scarborough but that was ok because they were RINOs.

How many “darling boys” had their parents lives ripped apart with Clinton? How much of our tax dollars went to fund the Ceips/Scarborugh tryts?

Mark Sanfard is trying to ride this out and some of his supporters are doing all they can to take the focus off his abuse of the taxpayer’s dollars and the public’s good will.

And on a final note, how many jobs did South Carolinians get from those tax-payer paid junkets to Buenos Aires? (And for the record, I am ONLY talking about jobs that EMPLOY people, not those that involve various parts of the human anatomy.

Hypocrites! Makes you want David Beasley back!

By RD Neck on June 25th, 2009 at 10:33 pm

I want to know who the folks were that went on the trip, who paid for it, what they did that qualified them as SC VIPS? Looks like we taxpayers paid for a bunch of Columbia boys to go dove shooting in Argentina.

Talk about taxpayer waste…

By Pat Hendrix on June 25th, 2009 at 10:43 pm

Esmarelda,
Normally that’s the case, and I would be willing to bet he did send them to her, but with a public figure with national ambitions – ambitions that could have been easily discovered during a presidential election where Sanford was being daily mentioned in the press – it would be far more damning to send them to the “paper of record” *sigh, I know* and kill his career. The amazing part, it’s clear that Sanford knew the press was aware and he still did it. That suggests he wanted to end his political career. Read his emails and it seems clear he wanted out.

He got it.

By Pat Hendrix on June 25th, 2009 at 10:44 pm

Brain,

The email could have been easily traced to IP address. The State where they came from.

By flipnut on June 25th, 2009 at 11:20 pm

What’s the deal with McClatchy newspapers holding back on stories that may ruin a politician’s career. Are they afraid or just think to much of themselves and their standards. Here’s a run down of all the free passes I could think of off the top of my head.

1. The Charlotte Observer and News and Observer refused to print a word about John Edwards until he was the butt of every late night joke.
2. The same two papers refuse to run with the Jim Black scandal( and you know that reaches into SC)
3. Again, both MNI papers refuse to run any dirt on former NC Gov. Mike Easley( he’s currently under investigation by the FBI and ruined NC State)
4. The Rock Hill Herald, gives county commissioner and resident sleaze Paul Lindemann a complete pass for DUI, passing bad checks on Winthrop, and his wife’s drug arrest.
5. The Herald just gave Lindemann’s business partner and co-bad check writer Greg Rodgers a pass on the bad checks to Winthrop when he announced he’s running for the state house this week. http://www.heraldonline.com/120/story/1426916.html
6. And now we find out The State has been sitting on the mother of all SC news stories for 6 months.

By Daisy on June 25th, 2009 at 11:38 pm

Y’all, it’s an enormous diversion! Close your eyes, ignore the static, and hear what may be truly important. Go get a vibrator and get your mind off sex for a minute and open your EYES to what is dangerously significant, for God’s sake.

By flipnut on June 25th, 2009 at 11:43 pm

Daisy, your absolutely right. Carolina still sucks at football.

By That Ex-husband Guy on June 25th, 2009 at 11:54 pm

John O’Connor from The State told Larry King that the messages were received from the governor’s personal e-mail account by an anonymous person. Imagine the ease with which Maria’s “jilted” ex-husband could tap into the gov’s personal email and forward to The State…no sweat. Either the anonymous source cited here is bogus or The State is lying (sorry: spinning, distorting, or misinforming), which they’d never do (tongue absolutely in cheek). In order to protect the boys, Jenny wouldn’t do it. Maybe it was that guy who hacked into Sarah Palin’s personal email. Or perhaps Maria did it in hopes of transforming the “hopelessly impossible” romance into reality…as intimate as it appears they were with each other, she very well could have known his password. Then again, and more likely, it was someone on his staff. Who gave The State the “anonymous” tip of his trip to Argentina? Either it was deduced from the emails or the leaker staff member could have done it. Then again, that assumes The State is telling the truth about the origins of the letters. So many unknowns. Either way, it was pretty damn tasteless for The State to publish the emails. Have some sensitivity toward the boys and Jenny. Then again, nothing is too low for The State.

Hey, have you seen this news article?
New details about Michael Jackson’s Death Emerge
I was wondering if you were going to blog about this…

By Earl Capps on June 26th, 2009 at 12:45 am

Someone leaks on Sanford … well, I guess that’s kind of like when someone from someone’s office leaked the Bauer trooper videos, right?

If it was the ex-husband, I couldn’t really blame him for doing that.

By craven foxworth on June 26th, 2009 at 3:10 am

Maybe I’m stereotyping here, but I wouldn’t think that an Argentinian would publicize his wife’s indiscretions throughout the Western Hemisphere. Male pride and all.

By The chief on June 26th, 2009 at 5:38 am

How about one of his sons using a girl friend’s email account…duh

This is Bogus ……Kevin Costner “Bull Durham”…!!!!!!!

Something is just NOT right….!!!!!!!

This all points back to a NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR……~!!!!!!

Why was the FBI brought in…??????

By Pat Hendrix on June 26th, 2009 at 8:29 am

You don’t need the FBI to figure out what IP address it came from. A twelve year old boy could do it.

It’s a shame that the media and everyone else always focuses on the man in the equation when women cheat much, much more often. Female logic is completely different in these equations. Men consider sex outside of a permenant relationship as cheating. However, women generally do NOT use that definition. To them, someone is always making them do something. When they do it, it’s a man’s fault for NOT supporting them in some fashion that they desire. For instance, he didn’t give her enough money, didn’t listen whine, grip, complain, moan about some trivial garbage that no one really cares about (http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Psychological-Reasons-Women-Cheat-More-than-Men&id=738666). You can also google the FACT that women cheat more than men and get nearly 19 million sites that support this FACTual conclusion. Bill Clinton (slick willy) used female logic to get out the Monica problem. Exactly what is the definition of sex??? The only important definition is GOD’s definition. If you think for a split second that GOD will put HIS stamp of approval on a woman’s affair, and not define it as adultery, simply because her man couldn’t/didn’t/wouldn’t give her money for smokes or listen to her spew worthless emotional trash for more than 1 minute then I believe UR gonna’ be hurtin’ and sunscreen number 1 trillion is not going to keep you from gettin’ burnt…

By Brian on June 26th, 2009 at 9:26 am

Pat,
Only if you have the entire email, if all you have is a screenshot or print out, there is no way to trace it to an IP. I am in IT, so I understand how all that works.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090625/ap_on_re_us/us_sc_governor_e_mails_1

“In an interview on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” State reporter John O’Connor said the newspaper was sent the messages from the governor’s personal e-mail account by an anonymous person.”

HE said it came from the Governor’s personal account, not the womans. And if he accessed his personal account from his state computer, it is possible that someone could have see it. There are ways administrators can take screen shots of computers every 30 seconds or whatever time frame they won’t. This can easily be done without you knowing it.

By CyndiLue on June 26th, 2009 at 9:52 am

And maybe the mistress leaked it, hoping that once he got caught his wife would leave him, and she could have him all to herself….

Never trust the other woman :)

By Pat Hendrix on June 26th, 2009 at 10:13 am

Brain, yeah, that’s amazing. I had not heard that and makes me wonder who would have done such a thing. Was anybody in his staff fired in December or January?

And Danix, it’s no secret why women cheat more – they can.

By Pat Hendrix on June 26th, 2009 at 10:14 am

Flattering, I called you brain, not Brian. Maybe you can make it a nickname or supervillian title.

By Addie on June 26th, 2009 at 10:32 am

Why this sight has not called for investigation. Why because both Mark Sanford and Tom Davis pay Will to do PR. That is why he has never reported on the Tom Davis affair that Tom had with a State News Paper reporter. Richard Todd reported on the affair on his radio show in Charleston Thursday. This is not Fox news it is not fair and balanced. It is very slanted depending on how much money you pay Will. Just look at all the press Nikki Haley gets. It is not due to her being a great politician in fact she has never passed one bill or reformed anything in SC. She just pays big $$$ to Will.

By A_Network_Administrator on June 26th, 2009 at 11:43 am

Two assumptions are baseless here. 1) A network admin must be the leaker, and 2) All The State has to do is trace the IP. Poppycock to both of those.

1) It was a personal email account. Probably Gmail, Yahoo, or some web-based thing like that. Sanford probably had the “remember password” checked and so all one would have to do is gain momentary access to his computer, open gmail, forward the inbox, or set up an automatically forward rule and hope he doesn’t notice. Easy breezy. A 10 year old can do it.

2) I doubt the emails were sent digitally to the State. Why would someone risk that. I think what’s more likely is they were printed and snail mailed. If they were sent digitally, all it takes is going to the library and setting up a yahoo account from one of their computers.. or any other public computer for that matter.

So let’s lay off the Government IT guys. They have enough to worry about blocking all the porn sites.

By Crooner on June 26th, 2009 at 3:08 pm

One more time. It goes like this: no pictures, no video, nothing in writing. Deny, deny, deny.

Sheesh, what an idiot.

By ShameOnJakie on June 26th, 2009 at 4:09 pm

The leak of these emails has the despicable stench of Porky Knotts all over it. Anyone with a tiny fragment of honor or class would have withheld those emails from the public so as to spare the boys the pain it will undoubtedly cause. When I think – who is it I know that has the LEAST amount of honor or class…the name Porky Knotts always comes to mind.

Knotts backs Bauer. Bauer pretends to take the high road and be concerned for Sanford and South Carolina. Knotts takes all the shots at Sanford (though I’ve heard a few rumors of Knott’s own dalliances).

Sanford has disappointed us all. If he steps down now, the RINOs in the Senate (McConnell & Knotts especially) will bankrupt our granchildren and and spend this state in to oblivion in no time flat.

If anyone needs to go, its Knotts & McConnell. Just my opinion.
