DC Metro Tragedy

At least seven people were killed and dozens more injured after two Washington D.C. Metrorail subway trains collided during rush hour in the nation’s capital yesterday afternoon.

It was the deadliest crash in the Metrorail’s 33-year history, and many are already blaming it on an aging fleet of subway cars that safety experts recommended that the city phase out three years ago.

Among the dead is the female operator of the train that reportedly caused the collision by crashing into a stationary train from behind.

Obviously, those are unconfirmed reports and federal transportation officials are investigating, but the photographs of the accident site certainly support such a theory.

Next to the New York City subway system, the Metrorail is the nation’s busiest rapid transit system – with over 200 million trips last year. The Metrorail’s five lines (a sixth is under construction) cover over 100 miles.

We certainly hope that you’ll join us in praying for all of those affected by this tragedy …
