Since the Governor is on holiday it is none of your business where he is, and besides, Southern manners (and even some Northern manners) would not tell you off for invading his family’s privacy. I’ve been around “clock punchers” before. The Governor doesn’t need someone to punch his clock, check up on his family time, or set his GPS. If you are all that concerned about the Governor and the State then pray, because knowing where he is will not help you know where you are and it is not going to solve your issues.

If Mr. Sanford was on a private hunting retreat, Mr. Sanford’s wife and staff should have told the media that it was none of the damned business where he was.

Since Mrs. Sanford said she didn’t know where he was, obviously things get a little weird. She says he needed time away from his kids over the Father’s Day weekend to write something.

Just imagine a wife (especially a rich, privileged, Yankee wife) talking to her husband and saying, “Sure Mark its OK for you to take off the Thursday before Father’s Day. And its totally cool if you don’t tell me where you are going and when you are coming home. I didn’t have anything planned for Father’s Day anyway…oh no don’t worry about your four sons either; I am sure they won’t want to see you on Father’s Day.”

Then imagine that the staff of a southern coastal governor doesn’t object when their boss decides to “go out of pocket” in the middle of hurricane season. He doesn’t tell them where he is going and doesn’t tell him how to get in touch with him in an emergency. They say he is working on some projects that fell by the wayside.

This governor’s former chief of staff and best legislative ally also can’t get in touch with this governor.

But somehow, just somehow, Will Folks is able to discover this Governor’s whereabouts in a matter of hours. And guess what? He is writing something. He isn’t working on some projects. He is hunting.
