Carol Fowler: Capable Of Regurgitation

As much as this may surprise many of you, S.C. Democratic Party Chairman Carol Fowler is capable of regurgitating 1980’s-era talking points on the primacy of public education.

We know, we couldn’t believe it either.

From Fowler’s op-ed in this weekend’s edition of La Socialista (a.k.a. The State newspaper) …

Democrats realize that a strong public school system is the foundation of a strong economy. Quality of life and education are factors major employers consider when they want to relocate their businesses. Those employers are reluctant to relocate in areas without schools that are able to provide an educated work force. This has had a devastating effect on many parts of South Carolina, both rural and urban.

At a time when our unemployment rate continues to rise at an historic rate, Republican elected officials should join Democrats in focusing on giving all our public schools, in poor, rural areas as well as wealthy suburbs, the ability to provide a high quality education. Improving the quality of public education for every single child is critical to the future of our state. We need a governor who acknowledges this truth and will do something about it.

Good Lord, Carol.

Plagiarize Dick Riley much? Seriously, the 1982 Democratic Party platform called. It wants you to stop copying and pasting without attribution.

It’s sad. This trite, bromidic nonsense is absolutely identical to the trite, bromidic nonsense that South Carolina’s status quo has been spewing for decades.

Meanwhile, our public schools continue to fall further behind the rest of the nation … with the taxpayer tab growing higher and the percentage of money actually reaching the classroom continuing to shrink.

Who’s “for the children” again?

Oh right … this Democrat!

The saddest part is that these people don’t hear how sad they sound when they spew this tired old stuff.

Actually, I heard these very same talking points being spouted by the Dept. of Commerce during the golden Campbell years. The folks over there were saying how hard it was to recruit CEO’s who didn’t want to send their kids to our public schools.

True, it’s not news when a Democrat like Carol Fowler makes statements like this regarding the necessity of strong public schools. What would really be news is if Governor Mark Sanford made a similar statement.
