Appeasing The “Death To America” Crowd
Chanting “Death to America,” Iranians loyal to clerical dictator Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made pretty clear yesterday just what U.S. President Barack Obama’s “hands-off” approach to the pro-democratic uprisings in the Muslim nation has gotten us.
Specifically? Not a whole hell of a lot.
Meanwhile, riot police returned to the business of beating, tear-gassing and water-hosing demonstrators- setting the stage for what could be the bloodiest anti-Democratic crackdown since Chinese communists rolled tanks into Tiananmen Square to suppress student uprisings twenty years ago.
Obama, who has been playing footsie with Iran’s militant hardliners ever since taking office, continues to abandon the pro-democracy forces in the wake of this week’s rigged Iranian elections.
His rationale is rumored to be the preservation of America’s negotiating ability with Tehran over its nuclear program, although our response to that is simple: What’s the point?
After all, it appears obvious from the lack of backbone Obama has shown in response to North Korea’s nuclear escalation that America won’t act to curb dictator Kim Jong Il’s increasingly naked agression.
So what, exactly, are we doing?

Let us not forget that Obama grew up worshipping Allah in a Shiite mosque.
It’s no surprise to me that his harshest words are directed at America and Israel.

What the Iranian clerics and hard liners want is to lure the US into the split. So that the turmoil can become more about the west than a stolen election. But Obama is too smart for that– great discipline. By staying out of it, there are no distractions away from a rigged election. It is tempting for any politician to pander, and inject themselves into a big news story like this. Hats off to Obama for being shrewd enough to avoid that temptation.

What a strange world: the president of France speaking out clearly against tyranny and the POTUS appeasing tyrants and playing realpolitik.

I agree with FITS we should invade and flush another 800 billion down the toilet forth with along with the lives of our bravest and best citizens based on what I now refer to as the “Marty McFly don’t-call-me-chicken” foreign policy of the Bush (43rd) years.

First, Zamba, grown a brain. Your voice just adds to the notion among reasonable people that fits and its posters are the online version of a clown car.
Second, there is no helpful role the United States can play in the situation. The mullahs are already playing to the notion that the US is orchestrating the uprising, thereby justifying their crackdown. This is the amazing part of the neocon evolution of the conservative movement, even the libertarian flank represented by fits. You have adopted the dumbest aspects of liberalism, namely it’s utopian/non-reality based approach to governing. In your case, it’s the absurd notion that we can determine the political outcomes of places thousands of miles from our shore. Really, children, what possible role can Obama loudly talking about Iran have in exacting a real change? Do you think the protestors are waiting for the United States to give their nod? What vain and delusional nonsense.
Look at the utility of rhetoric like “axis of evil” during the previous administration. North Korea went nuclear and Iran embarked on their program.
Here, I have an idea: Attempt a reality based argument based in facts and commonsense. But that’s the problem. If you’re capable of offering a fact based, well-reasoned argument, you wouldn’t be a conservative.

There are no facts to argue. The Republicans and neocons do not know what the US Response should be, but whatever response Obama provides is wrong. If Obama had come out and encouraged riots in the street the Right wing media would have attacked him. If he had said nothing the right wing media would have attacked him.
Once again the Party of No’s response is “We don’t know what to do but we know Obama is wrong.”

Quote from Conservative Author, George Will
“The president is being roundly criticized for insufficient, rhetorical support for what’s going on over there. It seems to me foolish criticism. The people on the streets know full well what the American attitude toward the regime is. And they don’t need that reinforced.”

Obama is wise for just watching this situtation. The neocons are insane. These same people wanted us to invade Iraq- and still think it was a good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only a fool would think Iraq has been a winner for us. And only a fool would want to go mess with the domestic politics of Iran. We have so many double standards and triple standards in the middle east, it makes the head spin.We favor “democracy” but our best ally is Saudi Arabia. The newly elected democracy in Palestine is not even acknowledged by the U.S. Let’s stay out of the sand box.

I’m glad we have a pragmatist in the WH who knows what he is doing. We better let the Iranians sort their mess out. We don’t understand the country or the regime, so we better stay the heck out of it.

Any criticism to Obama is likewise criticism to you and me.
