McMaster’s Evolving Sex Ad Policy
It’s pretty obvious by now that S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster has a pretty narrow standard when it comes to the sexual solicitations his office will investigate.
Basically, unless there are national headlines associated with a murder that’s been linked to the ads (i.e. Craigslist), he’s not interested.
In fact, McMaster has refused to investigate alleged sex solicitations in the past, claiming that such an inquiry was “beyond the scope” of his office.
In a June 2007 letter obtained by FITS, McMaster told former S.C. lawmaker Catherine Ceips that his office lacked the authority to determine whether or not an alleged sex ad in a local phone book violated state law.
“Any decision as to whether any advertisements in the telephone book would constitute a violation of such provisions would involve the resolution of a factual issue, which is beyond the scope of an opinion of this Office,” McMaster wrote Ceips. “Any such determination, therefore, would be a factual decision for local law enforcement and/or the local solicitor’s office.”
Wait … the resolution of a factual issue is beyond the scope of his office? Seriously?
Why do we get the feeling we’ll be hearing those words again as McMaster’s gubernatorial campaign gets cranked up?
Anyway, it’s obvious at this point that “Kneejerk” Henry was pandering … the consequences of which keep adding up as additional inconsistences come to light.

Was McMaster pandering? Absolutely!! Does anything in this piece demonstrate that? Not a chance!

McMasterbate has to be careful as he liable to collect his friends and fellow republicans in any sting he might set up.
Think about it…arresting Andre Bauer or Lindsey Graham would not be comfortable. But with all the activity at the rest areas, it is bound to happen.

Seems like there was an AG in NY who became Governor. He used to like to tackle issues like this. I believe his name was Spitzer.

Other blogs have addressed this hypocrisy. I think it also has something to do with the fact ATT and other phone companies donate to political campaigns in SC. It would be political suicide for the Attorney General to attack phone companies for the ads in their phone book and even internet providers that provide jobs for SC and campaign contributions.
Craig’s List was a safe target.
As for the legal reasons, I will leave that for the lawyers to decide.
I look for McMaster to ramp back up his pedophile crusade.

McMaster investigates what is political advantageous to him only. Don’t forget it. The rule of law doesn’t exist in his office. He protects big criminals and goes after the little man.
