Sanford’s Annual “Mancampment”

mancampment

Last year, we had a lot of fun exposing S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford’s all-male “Coosaw Encampment,” a gathering of some of South Carolina’s most influential right-wing politicos at the governor’s plantation … err, family farm … down in Beaufort County.

The curious invitation to the event notwithstanding, we were understandably suspect of this all-male gathering given that the governor upon occasion (such as in the middle of his State-of-the-State speeches) likes to let his mind wander to memories of Brokeback fishing trips with his bestest buddy, S.C. Sen. Chip Campsen.

Anyway, this weekend another meeting of Sanford’s “He-man Woman Haters Club” will be taking place at Coosaw Plantation, where the governor will presumably wax ineloquent to a bunch of old white dudes about how to not accomplish much of anything in government.

A.k.a. “Good Times.”

Apparently, Sanford’s “mancampments” are modeled after the “Bohemian Grove,” a private San Francisco-based men’s art club that holds an annual “encampment” for some of the world’s most powerful leaders.

No word yet on whether Sanford has invited U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, S.C. Senate President Glenn McConnell or Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer to this year’s “mancampment.”

Why those three?

No real reason … none whatsoever.

Well, I hope the weather is not threatening, so they want have to struggle “to get that last bale of hay in.” And perhaps the temperature will be cool–we sure don’t want all those guys to have to sleep on the floor of the one bedroom in the “farmhouse” that has air-conditioning.

hell, he could write a book and tour the country giving lectures and workshops on how on how to be arrogant and accomplish absolutely nothing!

Lindsey was there last year. And the only thing farm-like about this property is the big open field where they park the cars. Like last year I’m sure the governor’s little brother will wow the crowd with his aerial acrobatics. At least the food’s always good.

Sic — there was a wee bit of truth in The State newspaper the other day. It measured about 1 square centimeter and was a letter to the editor asking why the real reason Governor Sanford can’t reform the bozo state that is South Carolina.

Many of us know it is because of the antics of 2 bozo-headed legislators that sit atop the SC House and the SC Senate.

The masses must be informed. By force if necessary.

Wait — let me finish that thought.

“…asking why the real reason Governor Sanford can’t reform the bozo state that is South Carolina ISN’T EXPLAINED TO THE PEOPLE OF THIS STATE.”

    Thank you, Mr. Coffee.

Our Funding Editor is mildly amused sic(k) willie hints that certain elected officials are gay. First of all, who cares? No one.

The amusing thing is he does not have the b@lls to make real allegations.

All he does is f@rt in church and walk out.

For example, he once claimed a Midlands’ elected official has a Strom problem. Recall that he promised and promised and promised details.

Ever see details? No. You won’t.

For example, sic(k) willie once tried to “dig gold” over the grave of a “poor little black girl.”

Ever see details? No. You won’t.

    sic(k) willie folks is a political p@mp.

    Man, where to begin…

The whole gay angle is just a little creepy. So as to avoid the “doth protest too much, methinks” thing I’ll simply say sorry, Lindsey wasn’t around this year and it was nice to be able to pee behind a tree as required without worrying about a chic rolling up on your action (purely a function of the relationship between 150 dudes and about six heads).

Average age at this year’s encampment was probably a little over 45; not that “old” a bunch of guys.

I don’t know why anyone would think Coosaw’s a farm, just because they sell crops from there, harvest deer, and have about a kajillion tractors and other farm implements in the barns there. I don’t recall Sanford ever claiming to make his living from it…

The Gov didn’t “wax” much on any topic; ineloquently or not. He let the really outstanding lineup of speakers do the heavy lifting there- serious thinkers with the ability to lay out the case for limiting government’s continuing creep into every aspect of our lives, especially in regard to free markets and taxation.

Sorry, but it was a great way to spend a weekend.
