spanking

Having thoroughly spanked S.C. Attorney General “Kneejerk” Henry McMaster, Craigslist has pulled its lawsuit blocking him from prosecuting the company after McMaster basically bent over and said “thank you, sir, may I have another?” … err agreed not to prosecute.

Of course, with a lack of political sensibility that borders on mental retardation, McMaster’s people are once again trying to spin this unmitigated PR disaster in their favor.

“By accepting responsibility for those ads, (Craigslist has) made it easier for us, and the public, and other attorneys general across the country to hold them responsible,” Kneejerk spokesman Trey Walker told the Associated Press today.

Really, “Trey-boy?” Because here’s what really happened …

By crassly seizing on the “Craigslist killer” headlines, Henry McMaster engaged in a taxpayer-funded, headline-grabbing self-promotional tour aimed at boosting his popularity among GOP gubernatorial primary voters.

In doing so, he conveniently ignored graphic sex ads on local media outlets (which he wants to keep happy for his upcoming campaign) to focus on far less offensive Craigslist material. He also exposed our state to a potentially costly legal action (which it would have lost) while once again made South Carolina a national laughing stock to the very sort of high-tech firms we want to locate here.

And last but not least, in the process of “regulating Craigslist” McMaster has in fact impeded the efforts of law enforcement to track the very “crimes” he claims to be standing up against.

Oh, and one other thing – he did all of that because he wants you to forget all about that high-profile “sex dungeon” case he lost two years ago.

So yeah … keep on trying to take “credit,” moron.

Seriously, somebody seriously needs to tell “Kneejerk” to take a page from Speaker Pelosi’s book and just STFU.

Craogslist did NOT drop its lawsuit, just a demand for a restraining order, and it on;y dropped that because McMaster AGREED to a restraining order. Here’s what the AP reported here:

The company decided to drop its request after Attorney General Henry McMaster agreed not to pursue criminal charges while the company’s federal lawsuit goes forward, rendering moot their motion for a temporary restraining order. The decision was spelled out in a letter provided Thursday by McMaster’s office and signed by attorneys for the prosecutor and Craigslist.

The operative words are: “while the company’s federal lawsuit goes forward.”

Even WORSE news for “the General.”
