Alan Clemmons Suggested …

We always get a chuckle whenever we receive yet another one of those annoying formulaic Facebook emails telling us that so-and-so became a “fan” of this-or-that …

Nine times out of ten, what do we care?

For better or worse, we’re fans of the Chicago Blackhawks, Indianapolis Colts and University of South Carolina Shamecocks – because, you know, those are teams. That (sometimes) compete. Which involves rooting, or in Sic Willie’s case a lot of yelling at the television.

But far too many Facebook “fan” groups are popping up these days which – let’s face it – are little more than status symbols for people who really aren’t that important.

Like S.C. lawmakers – a growing number of whom think they should have “fans” instead of “friends” on Facebook. It’s like you get elected to the S.C. General Assembly, receive your special “Legislator” license plate and all of a sudden everybody is supposed to “bow down to the bow wow” or something.

Whatever. Most of these people aren’t even “Legends in their own Mind,” due to the whole mental prerequisite.

Anyway, in our email yesterday we received a message entitled “Alan Clemmons suggested you become a fan of Alan Clemmons …” In the message, we were informed that “Alan became a fan of Alan Clemmons on Facebook and suggested you become a fan too.”

Not to get too Church Lady on y’all but “isn’t that special.”

First, here’s a look at Clemmons “Fan Page …”

Oops … did something get stamped on there accidentally? Must’ve been those crazy Russians

Look, as much as Alan Clemmons is a nice guy personally, we wouldn’t become a “fan” of his on Facebook in a million years … not even if he had the most stellar fiscal conservative voting record in the whole state.

And let’s face it, he doesn’t. Clemmons has demeaned himself by becoming nothing more than a water bearer for House Speaker Bobby Harrell – as his votes to override nearly every one of Gov. Mark Sanford’s fiscally conservative vetoes last week capably demonstrated.

Clemmons (along with Senate President Glenn McConnell) was also instrumental in rigging the recent Supreme Court nominating process so that the “Republican” legislative majority could elect yet another Democrat to the S.C. Supreme Court.

So yeah, nice job there, “Republican.”

Again, we personally like Clemmons – and we’re glad he finally “found himself” with this whole shaved head/ cool belt buckle look – but we frankly preferred him back when he was a geek who occasionally voted in a manner consistent with Republican principles.

Sadly, those days appear to be long gone …
