Nearly 10 million people watched the season premiere of TLC’s reality TV series, “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” making it the most watched show in the cable network’s history.

The staggering total more than doubled TLC’s previous record of 4.6 million viewers – which was set during the finale of the show’s previous season.

Jon & Kate’s “doubling up” in the ratings comes amid rumors that both husband and wife “doubled up” on sexual partners – accusations which both of them vigorously deny. Still, the 73-minute program – which co-mingled scenes from their sextuplets five-year-old birthday party with a series of incredibly awkward “studio” interviews – was quite literally the talk of the country. Or the “Great National Drama,” as our founding editor is now labeling it.

Sic Willie watched the program with his wife Monday night, and his observation was simply, “Hmmmm. Sure doesn’t look good for them, does it honey?”

He then resumed rubbing Mrs. Sic’s back in silence, awaiting further instructions.

And no … he hasn’t seen his testicles in several months, people. In fact, we’ve heard there may even be an “Amber Alert” out for them.

As for the show, our feelings are mixed.

While we obviously feel compelled to offer the obligatory “we feel sorry for the kids in all this,” the truth is that there are some tangible benefits to the “Great National Drama.” For example, Kate is sporting a pretty rockin’ bod these days – along some nice orange slingbacks and a bitchin’ Winnie the Pooh tat on her left ankle.

Oh, and a hot BBD bodyguard, lest we forget …
