One of our favorite songs is Mike Doughty’s “Bustin’ Up A Starbucks.” It’s catchy, and whether or not you sympathize with its message, you can sure as hell dance to it – which last time we checked was the point of a pop song.
Unfortunately, somebody took the former ‘Soul Coughing’ singer’s words a little too literally this morning when they attempted to actually “bust up a Starbucks …” by bombing it.
And yes, the reason we’re treating this with such a non-newsy pop culture tinge is that (thankfully) no one was injured by the bombing, which took place on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
From the NY Daily News:
A small improvised explosive device detonated outside an Upper East Side Starbucks early Monday morning, shattering the coffee shop’s windows and raising fears of terrorism.
The bomb tore a hole in a wooden bench outside the coffee chain’s outpost at Third Ave. and E. 92nd St. when it exploded at 3:30 a.m.
No one was injured in the blast, but it terrified residents who had been fast asleep early on Memorial Day.
“I heard a giant noise — a big, giant noise, like a crash — and there was a flash,” said Jordan Kovnot, 26, a law student who lives above the Starbucks. “It made me jump up.”
“It felt like an earthquake,” said Adrianna Ebans, 28, who was among more than a dozen residents evacuated from the apartments above the Starbucks. “We were all really scared.”
Also scary?
Paying five bucks for a Venti mocha frappucino.

A customer was probably a little upset that their drink was wrong and wanted a refund lol! Yes… paying 5$ for a mocha frapuccino is spendy, but I love selling them :) it makes the paychecks :) LOVE STARBUCKS!

Jane,
Have you no thoughts that this may be related to other bombings(2005, 2007, 2008 — NYC)?
It’s all about you and that sh*t you peddle, is it?

I have a feeling that this is anti-capitalist terrorism, rather than Islamo-fascism… or it could have been some poor schmuk (not connected to any type of organization) who lost his job and/or house… Not that I agree with the action, thank G-d that no one was hurt, this is just my feeling on the situation.
