Apparently he doesn't realize that he is just the voice of the Charleston elite and not SOuth Carolina as a whole. I guarentee that if the entire state got to vote on these jack-legs none of them would be in office more than 6yrs at a time.

Sen. Glenn McConnell basically operates as if the state of South Carolina was the nation of South Carolina. He'd be the first to say that something that the USA was requiring SC to do was an unfunded mandate that infringed on states' rights. And he'd also be the first to say about cities, counties, and school districts, that, as the P&C phrased it, local governments are political subdivisions of the state, and therefore they must do what the state says.
For Sen. McConnell, it's all about the power of the state legislature, which he leads by being President pro tempore of the Senate. He believes that the state legislature best represents the people of South Carolina. And he believes that projects like the Hunley give pride to some of the people of South Carolina by reminding them of a time when South Carolina declared itself to be an independent nation from the USA. Sen. Glenn McConnell loves all things Confederate as a pride-in-South-Carolina kinda thing. The trouble of course is his two-heritage view which gets kinda segregationist.
Anyway, that's my understanding of Sen. Glenn McConnell. If you're looking for a consistent view that is always for limited government at every level, that's not Sen. McConnell. He wants more power at the state level, and he'll do everything he can to increase the power of the state legislature.
Just in closing, I'll agree with CNSYD: Everything Sen. McConnell said in his letter above is correct and well-stated.

OHH MY GOD!!! What balls thee faux freedom fighter does flaunt....
I am soo sick of these assholes being chameleons.Well, the good thing is we can see through these veiled attempts of Libertarianism to show what a RINO he is.I am not sure bringing liberty to the Republican party is a winnable fight.I think we need a ground up Constitution Party.Maybe then we can get these guys back to being snakeoil salemens where they belong
