After S.C. Rep. Thad Viers mocked Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer on the floor of the House of Representatives earlier this week for his PR-minded “blankets for old people” campaign, FITS decided to delve a bit deeper into Bauer’s “blanket operation.”

Here’s what happens – a company, usually a Wal Mart or Blue Cross Blue Shield – makes a monetary donation to Palmetto Tomorrow, which is the non-profit entity that actually credited with “providing” the blankets.

Of course, according to our sources taxpayer-funded employees handle most of, if not all of the logistics … and from what we’re told, this is quite an extensive operation, involving the purchasing, storing and delivering of the blankets and, of course, extensive promotion of the Lt. Governor’s involvement in the “delivery” process (pictured above).

So is everything with this blanket delivery service on the up-and-up?

From what we’re told, Palmetto Tomorrow spends significantly on the Lt. Governor’s travel.

We’re also told that multiple hours of taxpayer time are devoted to Palmetto Tomorrow’s efforts.

In fact, here’s a recent SC Hotline article about a Palmetto Tomorrow fundraiser in which the Lt. Governor’s office is listed as the point of contact.

Obviously, we’re not alleging that Bauer’s association with Palmetto Tomorrow is anywhere near as shady as the “Senior Scam” being run by his Chief-of-Staff, but it’s certainly something we’ll be paying closer attention to over the coming weeks.

After all, Bauer has shown a proclivity to use his office as a taxpayer-funded campaign, and what better PR than handing out blankets to old people?

Very funny Will, so good at the play, many plaudits to you. Unfortunately for you, the Governor did not approve that post, it was something we did in-kind after the event. Had staff noticed, we are certain they would have called our attention to the matter and number listed, but good try!

Have a nice day :)

And certificates of visitation to every school child who sets foot in the State House? Who is he fooling? Never mind …

Evidently he fools lots of folks- he keeps getting elected (albeit by slimmer and slimmer margins). Maybe one day…

This smells like something Andre got from Rod who always teaches candidates that old people are among the easiest group for politicians to fool.

Old people do not need blankets.
Old people NEED PROTECTION FROM LARGE CORPORATE GIANTS THAT ARE DONATING THE BLANKETS>
Andre knows that.

More Fiona Apple, less Andre.

So, does Andre and Palmetto Tomorrow make money on the blanket deals?

If so, how much?

Just how deep is the Jeff Sewell-Andre Bauer man crush go? Any sleepovers involved?
