Fore, Educrats!
Fore, educrats!
It’s taxpayer-funded tee time …
And while the utterly worthless S.C. State Ethics Commission can’t give you all green jackets, it can give you the green light to move forward with one of the most unconscionable wastes of public money we’ve even seen.
That’s because according to a formal Ethics Commission opinion, it’s perfectly fine for a public school superintendent and three of his board members to appropriate $200,000 for a new putting green at their private country club.
Wait, what?
Amazingly, they really pulled that move up at Spartanburg School District 7.
“It is my opinion that the Ethics Reform Act would not require a public school district board of trustee member to recuse himself from deliberating and voting on the contract with the private club since the private club is not a business with which he is associated,” wrote educrat apologist … err, Ethics Commission attorney Cathy Hazelwood in the opinion, which (surprise, surprise) was requested by the school district.
Spartanburg School District 7, an underperforming academic district which is led by South Carolina’s poster bureaurcrat, also paid out $275,000 to a PR firm last year – presumably to deal with the massive public backlash accompanying such boneheaded decisions.
Needless to say, that PR department was working in overdrive yesterday spitting out statements in praise of this miscarriage of justice … err, ruling.
“The positive opinion of the S.C. Ethics Commission reaffirms our belief that our work on this matter was done with the best interest of the district’s student-athletes at heart and with no motive whatsoever for personal benefit,” said superintendent Thomas White.
Yeah … right.
Wait … there’s more B.S. for you to step in.
“We are pleased with the Ethics Commission’s ruling and remain focused on positively impacting student achievement by leveraging District 7’s strengths and opportunities,” wrote the three country club members on his school board.
Good Lord … how do these people sleep at night?

Meanwhile our hard working teachers continue to lose their jobs. Job cuts should start from the top down rather than the bottom up. Cut these Frat boys loose and see if they can find another job in today’s market.

More sic(k) willie spin. You forgot to mention what the school district gets in return from the golf club. Guess sic(k) willie don’t play golf.

What could the golf club possibly contribute to the district that would help students meet State Education Standards? Again, another secret handshake deal that only serves the spoiled elite.

UpYers must not be a golfer either. He’s probably not even a good bowler.
sic(k) willie left out a very important part. That’s typical when he’s attacking any aspect of public eduction. sic(k) willie never lets the truth get in the way of one of his attacks on public education.

You failed to answer my question BIN and your ad hominem rhetoric was neither amusing nor clever.

BIN — maybe you could pick a new thing that aggravates you. How about the war on drugs? I have a whole bunch of material sitting at the ready.
