Cheney’s Back
You gotta hand it to President Barack Obama – he at least knows how to pick his enemies.
Whether battling Rush Limbaugh, or yesterday – Dick Cheney, Obama has figured out the best way to win an argument is to select an opponent that polls poorly.
Is Obama treading on dangerous ground by attempting to close the terrorist detainee camp at Guantanamo Bay?
Of course he is, but come on – is the fairest way to settle that really a battle between Obama’s teleprompter and Cheney’s Grumpy McGrumperson impersonation?
Boiling down the Obama-Cheney debate in expert precision is our bud Chris Cillizza at The Fix:
Obama argued that while keeping America safe is his first and most important priority, the idea that Guantanamo Bay and waterboarding are part of the solution rather than part of the problem is fundamentally misguided.
Cheney argued that the Obama administration is too worried about political correctness to recognize that the policies of the last president have worked in keeping the country safe, and that the decision to close Gitmo is a sign that the current president does not fundamentally understand the seriousness of the threat posed by terrorists.
South Carolinians, of course, should pay close attention to this. After all, if Obama has his way the Naval brig in Charleston, S.C. is a likely destination for these fun lovin’ criminals.
Still, though, the vapidity of this country is now bordering on the frightening.
The smiling, “optimistic,” politically-correct guy always wins. Or at least his teleprompter does.

No, actually, the Naval Brig is not the likely destination. Supermax prisons are. You know, the places where there’s never been an escape.
Here is a good article on the Cheney versus reality, er, Obama debate:

PS: When writing about the “vapidity” of the American public, it’s best not to shoehorn in a reference to telepromters. It’s makes you like childish and bitter.

Obama is bitter and vindictive and never, ever permits himself to be challenged. South Carolina went “red” and will be rewarded by receiving the lion’s share of the jihadis. Don’t mess the Obama.

Pat,
Can anyone be converted to Islam in the Supermax? Three of the recent NY TERRORISTS converted to Islam in JAIL. It seems to me that putting the terrorists in US jails would be a real recruitment bonus for Alqaeda…
By the way, Obama doesn’t ever present any actual evidence to demonstrate that Gitmo has increased converts to radical Islam. At least grouping these terrorists together prevents them from spreading their poison to others…

Patricia – the more time passes the more the Obama refrain becomes “me too” with respect to national security policies enacted by the Bush administration.
(campagin to the base in the primary ….. run to the middle in the general election …. govern from the center …yawn …..)
On this issue he can read from the teleprompter all he wants but the fact is he has NO choice since his donkeycratic colleagues in the Senate voted 90-6 to NOT close Gitmo.
